About AdSanity - Impressions

When the advertiser pays for visibility and you can only measure days

Selling ad space on your own site seems simple until an advertiser asks how many times their banner has been seen. With the expiry dates in AdSanity Core, an ad booked for a month runs for that month, whether your site gets a lot of traffic or very little. If a slow month leaves the advertiser with less exposure than expected, the argument comes by itself.

AdSanity Impressions is an add-on that adds expiry by number of views. You move from selling calendar time to selling measurable exposure, which is what many advertisers see as value.

AdSanity Impressions: daily limit or total limit, ad by ad

Each ad can have its own rule, and the limit is set per day or for the whole life of the ad.

Daily limit

The ad runs for the period you set, but it is only shown a specific number of times per day. Once it reaches that number, it disappears until the next day, when the counter goes back to zero.

Total limit

The ad is shown continuously until it reaches the agreed number of impressions, and then it expires.

Yellow and red rows in the ad list

In the management list you see each ad's impression settings at a glance. When an ad reaches 80% of its limit, its row turns yellow; when it expires and stops showing, it turns red.

With static page caching, the count doesn't work as you expect

AdSanity performs best with object caching. If your hosting or a plugin uses static page caching (Varnish or WP Super Cache, for example), Impressions is not compatible with Google Analytics' rate limiting policies and will not work as it should. Before selling impressions to anyone, find out which cache your hosting uses and check that the counter advances.

Charging the advertiser is still a job for other plugins

Impressions decides when an ad stops showing; it doesn't run the business around it. Here is the split:

  • It solves: expiring an ad by total or daily impressions.
  • It solves: flagging in the list the ads that are approaching their limit or have already expired.
  • You will cover separately: billing and invoicing the advertiser, with other plugins or by hand.
  • You will cover separately: reports so advertisers can see their results on their own (AdSanity has an advertiser reporting add-on).
  • You will cover separately: AdSanity Core, which is required for the add-on to work.

Frequently asked questions about AdSanity Impressions

Does it work without AdSanity Core?

No. It is an add-on and needs AdSanity Core installed.

Can I combine a date range with a daily cap?

Yes. You can keep the ad active for a period and limit how many times it is shown each day; the next day the counter resets.

Does it charge advertisers for me?

No. It only controls when the ad is shown and when it expires. You handle payment with other plugins or by hand.

Do I have to install every AdSanity add-on?

No, it's best to install only the ones you need for your advertising goals. If you want to limit ads by views, this is the one that does it.
