About AffiliateWP - Affiliate Info
Your page has no fixed affiliate: it shows the one each visitor brings
You write “Your representative is Ana” on your pricing page and expect everyone to read the same thing. But each visitor arrives with a different affiliate’s link, and the name that should appear is that of whoever brought them.
Affiliate Info does not write an affiliate’s name on the page: it reads it from the affiliate tracked for that visitor, and with the credit last referrer option, the data changes every time they enter through a new link.
Affiliate Info is an AffiliateWP addon. It shows information based on the referral URL the visitor brings, from the affiliate ID that AffiliateWP stores when it tracks them.
Data shortcodes and condition shortcodes
[affiliate_info_name]: public name in WordPress.[affiliate_info_website]: website address.[affiliate_info_email]: email address. Use it with care, because it shows it to anyone who visits the page.[affiliate_info_gravatar]: Gravatar image.[affiliate_info_username]: WordPress username.[affiliate_info_bio]: biography from the WordPress profile.[affiliate_info_twitter],[affiliate_info_facebook]and[affiliate_info_googleplus]: Twitter username and Facebook and Google+ addresses. Those fields appear on the WordPress profile when Yoast SEO is installed.
Two wrapper shortcodes complete the set. [affiliate_info_referred] shows its content only when an affiliate is being tracked, and [affiliate_info_not_referred] shows it only when there is none, which serves as a fallback for whoever arrives without a link. Developers can get the same data with PHP functions.
A message that changes depending on who sends the visitor
One possible combination, which you should test with an affiliate link and without one before publishing it: inside [affiliate_info_referred] you put “Your representative is [affiliate_info_name]” next to their photo with [affiliate_info_gravatar]. Inside [affiliate_info_not_referred] you put a general text from your company.
The same idea works for an affiliate landing page, useful for someone without their own website, or to offer direct contact with their email or social accounts. If you use a caching system, also test that page with different links.
Limitations of the data shown
- The shortcodes show data only when an affiliate is being tracked; without one, use the fallback shortcode.
- The Twitter, Facebook and Google+ fields only appear on the WordPress profile with Yoast SEO installed.
- The affiliate’s email is visible to any visitor of that page.
- With Credit Last Referrer, the affiliate shown can change if the visitor enters through another link.
First steps with the shortcodes
- Have AffiliateWP installed and active.
- Install and activate Affiliate Info.
- Write the text on your page with the data shortcodes you need.
- Wrap the text with
[affiliate_info_referred]and add alternative text with[affiliate_info_not_referred]. - Open the page with a test referral link and check the result.
Alternatives for affiliate pages
The base plugin is AffiliateWP. Among the addons of the same ecosystem are Affiliate Landing Pages and External Referral Links.
