About AnalyticsWP
A visit on Tuesday, a purchase on Friday and two people in the report
Someone arrives on a Tuesday from their phone, with no account, and reads three pages. On Friday they come back from a computer, log in and buy. If nothing connects those two moments, the data shows two different people and the sale seems to come from the last visit.
That gap is what matters to anyone investing in content or campaigns: a nameless visit may be your next customer, and the data is only useful if it keeps that history.
AnalyticsWP stores each person's journey inside WordPress. It records what an anonymous visitor does and, when they log in, gathers their events into one journey, even if they switched devices. The link depends on that login: if the person never signs in to their account, nothing connects what they did on each device.
Journeys, referrers and orders in the WordPress dashboard
- General dashboard with current visitors, unique people, pageviews and the most popular referrers.
- Anonymous and identified journeys, with activity history and lookup by user ID.
- Detail for each journey: username, email, first and last event, conversions and total events.
- Filters by referrer, page URL, user agent, UTM parameters, user, email and device type.
- WooCommerce: detected automatically, it adds the activity before purchase, the path to the sale and the source of each order, with data on order screens, tables and emails.
- Agency Mode, for agencies managing several WordPress sites.
- Custom events from JavaScript or PHP, with custom conversions.
There are integrations with builders such as Elementor, Divi and Bricks, with forms such as WPForms, Gravity Forms and Contact Form 7, and with WooCommerce, SureCart and Easy Digital Downloads. What gets recorded in each one, apart from WooCommerce, is worth checking on your install.
A single table on your server and a script you can block
The data does not leave your site. It is stored in a single database table, compressed per event, without writing files. You can export it, clean it up or query it with SQL. Tracking is first-party: it uses only first-party cookies, with no third-party scripts.
That ownership brings a task: the table grows in your database, and cleaning it is up to you. Among its features there is no automatic retention rule, so it is worth deciding how much history you want to keep and scheduling that cleanup from the start.
Its script can be blocked with a consent plugin such as Complianz until the person accepts. While it is blocked, that visit is not measured.
Heatmaps, A/B tests and other limits of AnalyticsWP
Among its features there are no heatmaps, session recordings or A/B tests.
It only works on WordPress. What happens in an app or on a site on another platform stays outside this dashboard.
Installing AnalyticsWP and starting to read journeys
It runs on WordPress and you install it by uploading and activating it, with no tracking setup. From there:
- If your site asks for consent, add its script to the block list of your cookie plugin.
- Let data build up and open the journey of several recent orders.
- Look for the pages that repeat before a purchase.
Other ways to measure in WordPress
Burst Statistics Pro also stores statistics in your WordPress database and includes goal and conversion tracking. Independent Analytics Pro measures from your own WordPress, with a referrers report and WooCommerce integration.
If you would rather stay with Google Analytics and read it without leaving the dashboard, MonsterInsights brings its reports into WordPress.
Questions when choosing AnalyticsWP
Does it connect one person's visits across several devices?
Yes, when that person logs in: their events merge into a single journey.
Is it useful without WooCommerce?
Yes. Journeys, the dashboard and form integrations do not depend on the store. WooCommerce adds the order features.
Can a developer add custom events?
Yes, with AnalyticsWP.event() in JavaScript or track_server_event() in PHP, conversions included.
Does it slow the site down?
It loads a script under 1.4 kB and acts once the page has finished loading. Even so, measure your site before and after.
