About AutomatorWP JetFormBuilder

Someone filling in your form without an account is not a user yet

Someone asks for information on your site, leaves their email and goes. You want to enrol them in a course, give them a membership or tag them on your list. But actions of that kind apply to a WordPress user, and that person is not one.

A form submission does not tell you who the next steps apply to; that decision has to be made before automating anything. Is there already an account with that email? Is a new one created? Or should nothing happen? If you do not think it through, the flow only works for those who arrived logged in, who may be a small part of the people filling in your forms.

This add-on connects JetFormBuilder with AutomatorWP, so that a form submission starts an automation with actions from other plugins. And it separates the two cases from the outset: logged-in user or guest.

Four triggers and one tag

  • User submits a form, in the Free edition.
  • Guest submits a form, in the Free edition, for visitors without a session.
  • User submits a field value, in the Pro edition.
  • Guest submits a field value, in the Pro edition.
  • Field value tag, in the Pro edition, to use any submitted value in actions.

Value triggers are useful when an answer decides the path. Three examples: submitting a specific form enrols in a LifterLMS course, filling a field with a certain value adds a Paid Memberships Pro membership, and choosing an option adds an ActiveCampaign tag.

Three ways out for the visitor without an account

Anonymous automations apply their actions to a different user from the one who fired the trigger. That is decided by the user selector, the component that sets who they are applied to.

  • Existing user: looks for an account you already have, and can create one if none is found.
  • New user: creates the account, and if one with those details exists you can stop the process or select the existing one.
  • Do not run the actions: if the selector cannot complete, the automation stops without applying anything.

All later actions apply to the user chosen or created by the selector. Each anonymous automation supports a single trigger, so two different forms with their own processes need two automations.

It only supplies the trigger: no forms and no actions of its own

It has no actions. What happens after submission comes from AutomatorWP or its other integrations, like those in the examples above.

It does not create forms. They are built in JetFormBuilder, in the block editor.

It is not always needed. JetFormBuilder already has 12 post-submit actions, such as sending an email or registering users. If that is enough for you, you may not need an automation. The add-on pays off when the outcome lives in another plugin.

Requirements and a first automation

You need AutomatorWP and JetFormBuilder active. JetFormBuilder requires WordPress 6.1 or higher and PHP 7.0 or higher. To get started:

  1. Create the form in JetFormBuilder.
  2. Decide whether logged-in users, guests or both will fill it in.
  3. Create the automation of the matching type and add the JetFormBuilder trigger.
  4. In an anonymous one, configure the user selector.
  5. Add the actions and run a test submission with each type of visitor.

Other ways to act after a JetFormBuilder submission

AutomatorWP Pro is the paid version of the automation platform this add-on runs on. Uncanny Automator Pro is another automation system inside WordPress, with recipes, conditions and filters. WP Webhooks Pro focuses on sending and receiving HTTP requests, in case the destination is outside WordPress.

Within the JetFormBuilder ecosystem itself there are User Login Action and Formless Actions Endpoints.

Guests, field values and new accounts

Does it work with visitors who are not logged in?

Yes. There are specific triggers for guests, in anonymous automations.

Can it react only to a specific answer?

Yes, with the field value triggers of the Pro edition.

Can I use what the person typed in an action?

Yes, with the field value tag of the Pro edition.

Does it add actions of its own?

No. The add-on supplies triggers and one tag, with no actions.

Can an account be created from the form?

Yes. In an anonymous automation, the user selector can create a new user.
