About AutomatorWP - Mailchimp
Your site decides who enters the list; Mailchimp does not report back
You want your Mailchimp list to mirror what happens on your site: who registers, who joins a group, who cancels. Before building it, it helps to know which way the information travels.
This integration only pushes data toward Mailchimp and offers no triggers, so what happens inside Mailchimp does not start any rule on your site.
AutomatorWP Mailchimp adds eleven Mailchimp actions to AutomatorWP: tagging, subscribing, unsubscribing, adding notes and sending a campaign. The events that activate them come from other plugins you have connected to AutomatorWP, such as an achievements, membership or community plugin.
Eleven actions and no triggers
Three actions are offered at no cost:
- Add a tag to a user.
- Subscribe a user to an audience.
- Add a note to a user.
The remaining eight are Pro: removing a tag from a user, unsubscribing a user from an audience, and the contact versions of adding and removing tags, subscribing, unsubscribing and adding notes. The last one is creating and sending a campaign.
That split has a practical consequence: with the free ones you can tag, subscribe and annotate users, but working with contacts, unsubscribing, removing a tag or launching a campaign is Pro level.
An example with a GamiPress rank
Three possible pairings: a GamiPress rank that subscribes to the audience, the cancellation of a Paid Memberships Pro membership that removes a tag, and joining a BuddyBoss group that sends a campaign. To the first one a tag is added:
- An automation with the trigger for unlocking a rank in GamiPress.
- The action of subscribing the user to an audience and another to add a tag with the rank's name.
The action that creates and sends a campaign launches the send to the chosen audience, and a send to your real list cannot be undone. Take it as a starting point and adapt it to your list.
Limits of the integration
Among its features there are no triggers. If you need an unsubscribe made in Mailchimp to be reflected on your site, this integration does not pick it up, because it does not listen to Mailchimp.
The actions on contacts and on users are different. It is worth reviewing which of the two versions you choose, since each acts on a different recipient.
First steps and requirements
You need WordPress with AutomatorWP active, a Mailchimp account with the audience you want to work on and another plugin that supplies the event that triggers the rule.
- Install and activate this add-on with the WordPress installer.
- Connect your Mailchimp account to AutomatorWP.
- Create a new automation and choose an event from another plugin as the trigger.
- Add the Mailchimp action you need as the action, for example subscribing to an audience.
- Activate the automation.
To compare in the catalog
To work with Mailchimp from other parts of the site, the catalog has Mailchimp for WordPress Premium, User Registration Mailchimp, QSM Mailchimp Integration and Tickera Mailchimp.
