When renewing a license sends the same receipt as buying it for the first time
A customer renews an annual license and gets an email thanking them for their purchase as if it were new. Or they move up to a higher plan and the receipt says nothing about the upgrade. It is not a serious mistake, but it leaves doubts: was what I wanted renewed? Did I pay for an additional license?
Anyone selling software with licenses lives off renewals, and renewal time is exactly when the customer decides whether to stay with you. The receipt is one of the few emails they will almost certainly open, and with generic text you waste it. This plugin lets you tell them exactly what just happened.
Better Purchase Receipts: its own receipt for renewals and another for upgrades
It is an Easy Digital Downloads add-on that takes two cases out of the standard receipt and gives each its own email:
- License upgrades: a customer moving up to a higher tier gets a receipt specific to that operation.
- Manual renewals: someone who renews their license on their own gets a receipt different from the one for a new purchase.
- Editable subject, headline and text: each email carries the message you write, in your tone and with your instructions.
- Preview and test sending: you see how each email looks and send it to yourself before a customer receives it.
Receipts for regular purchases remain those of Easy Digital Downloads; the plugin only handles these two cases.
Three stores where a separate receipt makes the difference
You sell a plugin or theme with an annual license
With your own text in the renewal receipt you avoid questions like "is this a new purchase?".
You offer several license tiers
Someone moving from a basic plan to one with more sites is spending money mid-cycle and wants to see that change reflected. With an upgrade receipt of its own you can explain it to them.
You serve customers who write in German
The plugin comes in English and German, and since you can change the subject, headline and text, adapting the emails to your audience is just a matter of writing them.

Does it work without Software Licensing?
No. It needs Easy Digital Downloads and the Software Licensing add-on installed and activated.
Can I change the text of the emails?
Yes: subject, headline and body.
Can I see the email before sending it to customers?
Yes, there is a preview and test email sending.
Does it cover every purchase in my store?
No, only license upgrades and manual renewals. All other purchases keep the standard receipt.
Without Software Licensing installed, there is nothing to send
This plugin does not work on its own: it depends on Easy Digital Downloads and its Software Licensing add-on. If you do not sell licenses, it is no use to you. It also refers to manual renewals; if your store also renews automatically, run a test to check which email the customer receives in that case. And it does not redesign the receipt for regular purchases.
