About EventOn Event Photos Add-on

The decision to attend is made inside the event card

Someone opens your calendar, finds a workshop or a concert and expands the card. They see the date, the place and one image. They still do not know what the room looks like or what atmosphere to expect. If finding out means leaving for another page, the calendar is left behind and the decision gets postponed.

The photos that help people decide belong at the point where they decide. Event Photos Plus brings those images to the EventON EventCard: it turns the photos of each event into a navigable gallery, with captions and a full-screen enlarged view.

Two ways to place images on the EventCard

  • Main gallery: the event's multiple images become a navigable gallery on the card.
  • Secondary gallery: it appears in its own box inside the EventCard, beside the featured image.
  • Per event or for all: you can enable it event by event, or create a separate gallery on all of them from their additional images.
  • Gallery style: there is an option to choose which style to use.
  • No featured image needed: additional images can be added without setting a featured image first.

The global option overrides the one on each event. Once it is on, what you set on each event stops mattering, so it is worth deciding first which rule you want for the whole calendar.

Seeing the photo large and moving with a finger

A click opens the image in an enlarged window at full size, fitted to the screen, with navigation and captions. The secondary gallery offers a similar experience.

  • Light or dark theme for that window, to choose according to the look of your site.
  • Several thumbnail sizes for the EventCard.
  • Touch navigation: on mobile you swipe between images, and swiping up closes the view.
  • Title and caption per image, shown on the photo itself.

A caption turns a loose photo into information

The text for each image is written in the Caption field when you choose it from the Event Photos box on the event edit screen, and it is what appears in the enlarged view. There you can say which edition it was, which room it happened in or who is on stage. A crowd photo with no context says little; with one line under it, it answers a concrete question from someone who is hesitating.

Images are added, edited and deleted from that same screen, so the work is done event by event, along with the rest of its details.

An event gallery, with no photo delivery or sales

This add-on displays images inside the calendar. Its features do not include watermarks, photo sales, image selection by a client or photo uploads by attendees. If you photograph events on commission and need someone to pick their shots, your work calls for another tool.

Getting started on top of EventON and other kinds of gallery

It only needs EventON installed, activated and up to date, and no other add-on for the basic gallery. Then:

  1. Install and activate Event Photos Plus.
  2. Go to EventON, Settings, and open the Photos tab.
  3. Choose the enlarged window theme and the thumbnail size.
  4. Decide whether you want a separate gallery for all events.
  5. Add images and captions from an event's Event Photos box.
  6. Check in the EventCard settings that the Event photos row is ticked.

If you are after a general gallery or more layouts, FooGallery Premium brings tag filtering and loading in parts. For a client to pick their photos, Picu Pro works through collections they mark and confirm. And if your calendar will sell places, the add-on you still need is Event Tickets. The base of it all is EventON.

Galleries, captions and mobile in practice

Does it work without EventON?

No. It is an EventON add-on and needs the main plugin installed and activated.

Why do I not see the photos on the card?

Check in the EventCard settings that the Event photos row is ticked, and save the changes. You can also move it up or down there.

Where do I write the captions?

In the Caption field of each image, when you select it from the event's Event Photos box.

Can it be used on mobile?

Yes. The enlarged window is responsive and lets you move through images by swiping, and close the view by swiping up.

Can I have a gallery on only some events?

Yes, as long as you do not turn on the global separate gallery option, which overrides each event's setting.
