About FacetWP Range List Addon

Price ranges visitors understand at a glance

Someone landing on a long list of properties, products or recipes rarely knows the exact figure they want. They know they want something "under 300" or "between 50 and 100".

FacetWP Range List Addon adds a facet type to FacetWP that turns a numeric value (price, weight, square meters or any other figure) into a list of named ranges that can be clicked. And there is something worth accepting from the start: you design the ranges, and that decision is editorial. A range that holds almost your entire catalog filters as little as having no filter at all.

How ranges are built in FacetWP Range List Addon

You choose the data source (taxonomy, custom field or post attribute), which must hold a numeric value, and create one row per range with its minimum, its maximum and the label the visitor will see. Each row is a choice in the facet.

  • If you leave a row's minimum empty, it takes the maximum of the previous row; in the first row, it starts at 0.
  • If you leave the maximum of the last row empty, the range stays open, something like "from 1,000 and up".
  • If you type the minimums by hand, you can overlap ranges. The maximum counts as "up to and including" and the minimum as "from and including", so a value right on the boundary appears in both ranges.
  • Decimals are supported: use a dot, with no thousands separator, spaces or other characters.

The list can be displayed as checkboxes, radio buttons, a dropdown or fSelect (single or multi-select). Checkboxes have no "Any" choice; the other three do, with the text you choose, and you can remove it in the radio by leaving the label empty.

Three situations, three ways to set it up

Store with very uneven prices

Use checkboxes or multi-select fSelect with OR logic: the visitor ticks "up to 50" and "100 to 200" and sees the products from both ranges. With AND logic, on the other hand, each extra range narrows the results, which rarely makes sense with ranges that don't overlap.

Real estate site or directory with many filters

fSelect also lets you customize the fixed label, the text of its inner search box, or hide it.

Small or fast-changing catalog

Decide what to do with empty ranges using the show ghosts option: when enabled, ranges with no results stay visible but dimmed and unclickable. When disabled, they disappear. A range with no associated posts never appears.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work for WooCommerce prices?

It works with any numeric value FacetWP can read as a data source, including custom fields. Check in the demo how it behaves with your product structure.

Can I set my own labels?

Yes, each range has its own label. The "Any" label is translatable with the facetwp_i18n hook.

Does a product of exactly 10000 show up in two ranges?

Only if the ranges overlap at that value, because the endpoints are inclusive. If you don't want duplicates, leave a clear gap between one maximum and the next minimum.

Can the visitor pick several ranges at once?

Yes, with checkboxes or with fSelect in multi-select mode.

It needs FacetWP and clean figures in your data

It does not work on its own: it is a facet type that adds to FacetWP. Ranges are not calculated automatically from your data, you write them yourself, and for a free figure the visitor types or drags, FacetWP has other facet types, such as the slider or the number range. If your prices are stored as text with symbols or thousands separators, clean them up first.
