About GamiPress - Frontend Reports

Showing a user's past is a design decision

A user in your community has earned credits for months. If they open their dashboard and see only today's balance, they do not see the path that led there. If they see their whole history, they may get lost in old figures.

A report with period controls gives the user memory of their activity, and one without controls shows only the period you choose: how much past they see is yours to decide.

GamiPress Frontend Reports shows your users reports of their GamiPress activity, such as credits and achievements, with statistics that load live so the site is not overloaded. It is meant to show reports to users only, not site-wide statistics.

Report types and where to place them

  • Plain reports: unstyled, so you design them and place them anywhere. They carry HTML classes for styling.
  • Chart reports: show statistics of the types and amounts you choose, for example credits earned and lost or achievements earned. The styles are inline, lines, bars, radar, doughnut, pie and polar area.
  • Reports with navigable period: optional controls so the user can move through different periods and see older activity. You can remove them and show a single period.
  • Eleven shortcodes: each with a block and a widget version.
  • In content or in a sidebar: the report is inserted in-line in a page or post with a block or shortcode, or in a sidebar with a configurable widget.
  • Colors: style options for the border and background of each statistic.

An activity dashboard per user

One possible setup: a profile page with a chart of credits earned and lost, with period controls, and a second chart of achievements earned fixed to a single period. Change the chart types and periods to match what your users want to see.

The shortcodes support the GamiPress live shortcode embedder, which lets you insert them and see the result from the editor without typing them by hand.

Requirements and differences from the global report

You need GamiPress installed, because the data comes from its credit and achievement activity. For site-wide statistics there is the GamiPress Reports add-on, which is a different one.

Among its features there are no visibility settings by role for each report.

First steps with frontend reports

  1. Install GamiPress and then this add-on with the WordPress installer.
  2. Choose the report type: plain, chart or navigable period.
  3. Insert its block, widget or shortcode in the page or sidebar.
  4. Decide whether the user can change period or sees only one.
  5. Adjust the border and background colors.
