How fast you get paid may sit in your contract with the bank

You compare gateways and one promises fast settlements. It looks like a product feature, like the cards it accepts. But between the sale and the money in your account there is an agreement you may not have signed with the gateway, and that agreement rules the dates.

A gateway moves the transaction; the party that pays you may be another entity. With eWAY, this translates into two ways of signing up, and only in one of them does settlement depend on your bank. eWAY Payment Gateway, an add-on that brings this Australian gateway to GetPaid, handles the technical connection in a few fields. The decision that matters comes earlier, when you choose which type of account to open.

Two ways of working with eWAY

The option you choose changes who you deal with when the talk turns to money:

• Online Payments: eWAY's service for starting to take payments online with everything you need.
• Payment Gateway: you connect a merchant account you already hold with your bank to the gateway. You need that account first, because eWAY only processes the payments. Funds settle under your agreement with the bank, and shorter timeframes depend on that agreement.

The second route is meant for businesses with an established bank merchant account, high-volume retailers seeking better rates from their bank, and specialized or high-risk industries.

Cards in your GetPaid checkout

With the add-on active, eWAY appears among GetPaid's payment options:

• Payments with all major credit cards, from customers anywhere and on any device.
• Flat-rate transaction fees and fast settlements, under eWAY's terms.
• Presentation: a checkout title and optional description.
• Priority against the other gateways you have active.

eWAY operates in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau. Charging customers from any country and being able to open an account are different questions, so confirm the second one with eWAY.

Fraud protection lives in your eWAY account

Transaction screening happens on eWAY's side, which is why you will not see it among the add-on's settings:

• Fraud Lite comes included with every eWAY account.
• Advanced plans are available to extend it.
• Screening of incoming transactions with proprietary fraud tools.
• PCI DSS level 1 card data protection on eWAY's side.

If the filters decline payments you expected to go through, review them in your eWAY account before touching WordPress.

Connecting the account and testing in sandbox

You need GetPaid installed, this add-on active and an eWAY account. The settings ask for an API Key and Password, and include the Enable Sandbox checkbox for testing.

1. Go to GetPaid, Settings, Payment Gateways, eWAY, and check Activate.
2. Check Enable Sandbox and enter the sandbox credentials from your eWAY portal.
3. Save and make a test purchase.
4. Enter the API Key and password from your eWAY control panel.
5. Turn off Enable Sandbox and save, so live payments are not left in test mode.

The add-on's limits and other gateways

This add-on joins eWAY and GetPaid. It does not work without GetPaid, does not connect other plugins and does not open the account for you. Nor does it replace your relationship with the bank if you choose the own-merchant-account route. If you plan to charge subscriptions, include a renewal in your tests before offering them through this gateway.

Can I use my bank's merchant account?

What happens if I forget to turn off sandbox?

You will stay in test mode, so turn it off to receive real payments.

Which cards does it accept?

All major credit cards. Check in your account which ones you have enabled.

Can I use it without GetPaid?

No. Its options appear when the add-on and GetPaid are installed and active.
