About Kadence WP Galleries Plugin

A gallery built inside a page stays trapped on that page

You finish a project and upload its photos to the portfolio page. Later you want to show that same selection on the home page and in a blog post, and you start repeating it. Months later you change an image and have to remember how many places you put it.

If your images are part of what you offer, it pays to treat them as content in their own right and not as decoration on each page. Kadence Galleries works that way: each gallery is an independent entry, with its page, its publishing status and its shortcode, and it is organized into albums.

It is an images and albums plugin for WordPress. It is not a page builder, and each gallery appears in your content through its shortcode.

Albums that sort galleries like categories

Albums are managed under K Galleries, Gallery Albums, and work as categories for your galleries. Each one has a name, a slug for its URL and, optionally, a parent album and a description, which some themes display.

  • Hierarchy: the parent album lets you nest, for example, Weddings inside Events.
  • Archive page: each album shows one image from each gallery it contains.
  • Featured image: it is set on the gallery.
  • Assignment from the editor: you add the gallery to one or more albums, or create a new one without leaving the screen.

Seven grid styles and a choice of lightbox

Each gallery sets its own presentation:

  • Styles: Square, Portrait, Landscape, Wide Landscape, Title, Mosaic and Masonry.
  • Columns: set separately for desktop, tablet and mobile.
  • Captions: shown or hidden, and they can add the image title and category names.
  • Category filter: based on albums, and you choose which ones appear.
  • Pinterest buttons on images, optional.
  • Pagination per gallery.

Under K Galleries, Settings, you choose between PhotoSwipe and Magnific Popup for the lightbox, with a light or dark look, and how many albums display per page.

Each gallery is published like a post

Because it is content of its own, each gallery has its own publishing controls:

  • Status: draft, pending review or published.
  • Visibility: public, private or password protected.
  • Date: immediate or scheduled publishing.
  • Discussion: comments, trackbacks and pingbacks can be turned on or off.
  • Custom fields to use in your theme.
  • Gallery page: Post Settings controls the transparent header, title, layout, content style and vertical padding.

If you plan to deliver photos to a client behind a password, test how the protection behaves both on the gallery page and on a page that embeds it through a shortcode.

Albums, images and shortcode, in order

This order avoids redoing work:

  1. Create your albums first under K Galleries, Gallery Albums.
  2. Click Add New Gallery and load the images with Add/Edit Gallery.
  3. Choose the style, columns per device and captions, and assign the albums.
  4. Set the featured image for the archive page.
  5. Choose the lightbox in Settings.
  6. Copy the shortcode into the Shortcode block of the page or post where you want to show it.

Afterward, check that a change to the gallery reaches every page where you pasted the shortcode. Keep in mind that the Clear Gallery button removes all the images at once.

When you need video or galleries inside the editor

Among the features of Kadence Galleries there is no watermark or video. FooGallery covers that ground, with filtering and search, video alongside photos, watermarks and product galleries for WooCommerce.

If you prefer to build the gallery as a block, Kadence Blocks Pro adds the Tiles and Mosaic types to its advanced gallery block, plus dynamic galleries that take their images from a custom field.

Shortcode, albums and passwords in Kadence Galleries

How do I insert a gallery?

Each gallery has a unique shortcode, which you copy into the Shortcode block on any page or post.

What is the difference between an album and a gallery?

The gallery holds the images. The album groups galleries, like a category, and has its own archive page.

Can a gallery be in several albums?

Yes, you choose them from the gallery editor.

Can I protect a gallery?

Yes, its visibility can be private or password protected.

Does the filter work with my own categories?

It is based on albums, and you decide which ones appear in it.
