About LifterLMS
Selling the course is the easy part; getting the student to the end keeps the business alive
Building a course in WordPress often ends in loose pages, embedded videos, access you grant by hand and no way of knowing who has made progress. The real problem comes after the sale: the student who drops out at lesson three won't recommend you, won't renew and won't buy your next course.
LifterLMS is an LMS plugin designed for that whole journey: creating the content, selling it, enrolling without manual work and guiding the student until they finish. If all you need is a payment page with a PDF behind it, it's probably more than you need.
The LifterLMS course builder and the pieces that come as add-ons
At the center is a builder that lets you work on the course from a single screen, with reusable lessons that can be moved from one course to another. Around it:
- Flexible selling: courses, memberships or training packages, with one-time payment or recurring charges.
- Automatic enrollments: the student pays and gets in, without you opening the door.
- Quizzes: part of the automated training in your courses.
- Motivation: badges and certificates when lessons and courses are completed, which students can show off.
- Course and landing pages: to attract students without building everything with another tool.
Now, the limits. It is a plugin: you need your own WordPress site. To get paid you have to connect a payment gateway, and there are add-ons for Stripe, PayPal, Authorize.Net and WooCommerce. Other pieces, such as cohorts, groups, assignments, events, advanced quizzes or social learning, come as separate add-ons, so don't assume they are active right after installing.
LifterLMS frequently asked questions
Is it for memberships or only for courses?
For both. You can sell single courses, memberships or training packages, with one-time or recurring payment.
Can I connect it to my email marketing or my forms?
There are add-ons for Mailchimp and Zapier, and also for Gravity Forms, WPForms, Ninja Forms and Formidable Forms.
Does it give students certificates?
Yes, it covers certificates and badges when lessons and courses are completed. Check in the demo how they look before you decide.
Is it good for training my team rather than selling?
Yes. It is also used for internal training portals, with company processes, onboarding and FAQs.
Who installs it: creators, schools, companies and agencies
Each profile asks for something different:
- Creators and coaches: monetizing knowledge with courses or memberships.
- Schools: taking in-person or niche training to a virtual classroom.
- Companies: their own internal training portal.
- Agencies and WordPress professionals: an LMS foundation for client projects.
Your first course: define access and the gateway before anything else
Don't try to activate every add-on on day one. Start with a short course, decide how people get in (sale, membership or free), connect the payment gateway and make a test purchase as if you were a student.
Only when that enrollment works from start to finish does it make sense to add cohorts, groups, certificates or integrations. That way you find out early whether the student journey convinces you.
