About Modula Protection
Right-click separates the curious from the determined
You publish a gallery and the doubt arrives on its own: what stops someone from keeping your photos? The useful answer is uncomfortable. An image shown on screen is already in the visitor's browser, and a screenshot is always possible. That is why this protection is better understood as an intent filter than as a lock.
Someone who saves a photo because the menu was there stops once the menu is gone. Someone determined to take it will look for another route. Modula Protection works on the first group: it removes the easy gesture without asking anything of people who only came to look.
It is an add-on for Modula. It disables right-click on the images of the galleries where you turn it on. It does not create galleries and does not work by itself.
What changes in a protected gallery
- Right-click disabled on the images of the published gallery.
- Activation gallery by gallery, with the Enable protection switch in the Misc tab. You can leave a portfolio open and protect only a client's gallery.
- Reach set by permissions: it covers visitors who are not logged in and logged-in users without Media permissions.
- A separate extension within Modula, switched on from Modula > Extensions before it appears in your galleries.
Why your own session misleads you when testing
If you log in as admin and right-click a photo, the result proves nothing. The protection is meant for logged-out visitors and for users without Media permissions, so your admin account is no test.
The correct check is done in an incognito window or in a browser where you have not logged in as admin. Keep this in mind for your team too: do not count on the protection for accounts that have Media permissions. A client with an account without those permissions is covered.
What stays within the visitor's reach and what to add on top
Screenshots. No setting in this add-on prevents them, which is why it should not be presented to your clients as a guarantee against copying.
Everything that is not right-click. This piece centers on that switch. Watermarking is a separate Modula Pro feature, and do not count on this add-on hiding the file's real address. Its ground is Modula galleries, not every image on your site.
When the image is worth money, this piece works better with company. Modula Pro includes watermarks, password-protected galleries and user role restrictions. A watermark stays inside the image even if someone takes a screenshot; a password decides who gets to see the gallery; disabled right-click remains the last and lightest of the layers.
How to get it working on a gallery
You need Modula and Modula Pro installed and active. With that ready, the route is short:
- Install the add-on and turn on Right-Click Protection in Modula > Extensions.
- Create or open a gallery in Modula > Galleries, and upload your images.
- In the Misc tab of its settings, turn on Enable protection and save.
- Copy the gallery shortcode and paste it on the page where it should appear.
- Open that page in incognito and try right-clicking an image.
Modula Pro and other ways to protect images
The starting point is Modula Pro, because this add-on needs it. If you have not chosen a gallery plugin yet, FooGallery Premium brings filtering, video alongside photos, watermarking and image protection into one product.
With Envira, the route is Envira Gallery Watermarking. And if what you want to look after goes beyond galleries, WP Content Copy Protection limits text selection, copy shortcuts, right-click and image saving on posts, pages and the home page.
What the block covers and what it does not
Does it prevent screenshots?
No. A screenshot is always possible. If you need your name to stay on the image, add a watermark too.
Does it work with just the free version of Modula?
No. It requires Modula and Modula Pro to be active.
Do I have to turn it on in all my galleries?
No. The switch sits in each gallery, so you decide which ones to protect.
Why do I still see the menu in my browser?
Most likely your admin session is open. Check the page in incognito.
Does it hide the image's real address?
Do not count on it. This add-on centers on right-click.
