About PeepSo IdeaPush Integration
An ideas board only gathers votes if someone visits it
You open a board so your community can suggest improvements, put it on its own page and announce the news. The first proposals arrive. But your members spend their day on the stream, and the board sits at another address: anyone who does not go there has no idea there is something to vote on.
IdeaPush Integration connects the two pieces. Each new idea can be published to the PeepSo activity stream, with its title as a link, and each member's ideas can appear on their profile. The proposal reaches people who would never have opened the board.
Three points where IdeaPush and PeepSo meet
- Activity stream: creates an item when someone posts an idea. The action text, "posted an idea" by default, can be replaced with your own, and the idea's title can be added after it as a link.
- Ideas tab on the profile: supports two columns, featured images and a word limit to keep the listing compact. The label, the slug and the icon can be changed, using FontAwesome classes or a similar set.
- Comments: replaces the IdeaPush comment box with PeepSo comments. You can hide the "join now" cover and add a general header and another above the comments.
Decide who reads an idea before the first one arrives
In a community of customers, a suggestion also tells what your product lacks. That is why the setting most worth reviewing is the default privacy of the stream post, which can be Public or Site members.
That setting refers to the stream post. Access to the board is decided in IdeaPush, which lets you limit boards to certain user roles and hide them from site search. Review both sides: a members-only post that links to an open board covers only half.
Votes, statuses and notifications are set up in IdeaPush
This integration does not add the board or the voting system. All of that comes from IdeaPush, a separate plugin:
- One board in the free version, inserted with a shortcode; multiple boards are a Pro feature.
- Votes upvote only, or upvote and downvote, with a daily limit to prevent misuse.
- Statuses: open, reviewed, approved, declined, in progress and completed. A vote threshold can change the status automatically.
- Notifications for administrators, authors and voters.
The integration's settings do not include any for notifications, so set those up in IdeaPush.
Set up the board and link it to the stream
You need PeepSo, IdeaPush and this integration active on the same site. The order we recommend is this:
- Activate PeepSo and IdeaPush.
- Create the board in IdeaPush and place its shortcode on a page.
- Install and activate IdeaPush Integration.
- Open WP Admin, PeepSo, Configuration, IdeaPush.
- Enable Post to Activity Stream and set the default privacy.
- Enable the Ideas tab and decide whether to use PeepSo comments.
- Post a test idea with a member account and see how it looks on the stream and on the profile.
PeepSo Core, chat and polls in the catalog
PeepSo Core is the base this integration runs on. If you also want conversations away from the stream, PeepSo Core: Chat adds private messages and real-time chat.
When the question is closed and you are the one asking it, a board open to proposals may be more than you need: TotalPoll Pro is a polling plugin for WordPress that does not depend on PeepSo.
Stream, profile and comments for ideas
Does it work without PeepSo or without IdeaPush?
No. It is an integration between the two and needs both base plugins active.
Is every new idea published to the stream?
Only with Post to Activity Stream enabled. It is an option you can leave off.
Can I change the "posted an idea" text?
Yes. The action text accepts your own phrase, useful in a community that does not speak English, and it can be followed by the title as a link.
Who can approve or decline ideas?
Administrators. They can also mark them as in progress or completed.
Does each member get a list of their ideas?
Yes, if you enable the Ideas tab on profiles.
Do comments become PeepSo comments?
Only if you enable that option, which replaces the IdeaPush comment box.
