About PMPRO Social Login Addon

Asking for a password before charging is where signups get lost

In a membership, the person has not received anything yet and you are already asking them to invent a username, a password and confirm their email. That form is the first thing they see and the only thing between them and payment. And months later, someone who cannot remember which email they signed up with cannot reach the content they pay for and often ends up cancelling.

PMPRO Social Login Addon connects Paid Memberships Pro with Nextend Social Login or Super Socializer. At checkout it hides the account details section and shows the buttons for the networks you have configured. The visitor clicks one, returns to checkout already identified, and only has to complete payment (if the level has one) and confirm. Anyone who prefers the classic method has a link to type their details manually.

From social button to active level: three ways to use it

If you attract members with a free level

Signup comes down to choosing the level, clicking the social network icon and confirming. This is where removing fields is most noticeable, because there is no payment to justify the effort of filling in a form.

If you charge for the level

The person chooses a level, signs in with their social network, returns to the checkout page and completes the payment details before confirming. You lose the account creation step, but payment stays the same.

If you run a blog, a community or private videos

The buttons also appear on the frontend login form, next to the usual fields. If the person signing in is already a member, they access their existing account. If no account exists, a new user is created and logged in straight away. You can assign a default level to those new accounts, for example a free one.

Settings you do control with PMPRO Social Login Addon

  • Per level: once the provider is configured, all levels show social login, but you can hide it on any level from the level edit screen.
  • Default level: it is assigned to users created from the login form. Only one level can be the default.
  • Another social plugin: the add on inserts the active plugin's shortcode into checkout. With the pmprosl_login_shortcode filter a developer can replace it or adjust its attributes.
  • Networks: you set up each network (Google, Facebook, X) in Nextend or Super Socializer, by creating an application in each one.

With Nextend Social Login, enable the Membership option in its global settings so it can create new users. Each provider uses a different redirect URL, which the plugin itself shows you.

Questions from someone about to install it

Can I use it without Nextend or Super Socializer? It is designed for those two. With another social plugin you will have to rely on the shortcode filter, which means touching code.

What if someone prefers a username and password? They have a link at checkout to enter their details manually.

Do I need to enable open registration in WordPress? Yes, the Anyone can register option in General settings must be checked for it to work.

Does it work for paid levels? Yes. Social login identifies the person, and then they complete payment at checkout.

Without Paid Memberships Pro and a social plugin, it does nothing

It is an add on: it needs Paid Memberships Pro installed and active, and one of the two compatible social plugins already configured. Before you start, prepare the applications in Google, Facebook or X.
