The open session nobody remembers to close
People who log into their client area, member dashboard or account from a shared computer rarely think about logging out: they get up, take a call, and the screen stays open with their data on it. On a site with sensitive information, the risk is usually not a sophisticated attacker but the next person who sits down. Popup Maker - Secure Idle User Logout closes that door: it detects when a user has been idle for a while, warns them and, if they don't respond, logs them out.
How Popup Maker - Secure Idle User Logout works
It is a Popup Maker extension, so the warning and the final message are popups that you design with the tools you already know.
- A timer set to your needs: you choose the idle time that triggers the process, depending on how sensitive your site's information is.
- Idle trigger: an idle-time trigger launches the warning popup when the user stops interacting.
- Visible countdown: a countdown shortcode can show how long is left before the session closes, so the user knows they must react.
- Popup after logout: it appears automatically once the session has been closed. Its content is free thanks to the visual editor, and with the Theme Builder you match it to the rest of your site.
Three situations where idle logout pays off
Client portal with personal data
Invoices, case files or orders that nobody should see by chance. After logout, the popup can invite the client to log in again.
Membership or training site
A logged-out message with a redirect link can help the user pick up what they were doing.
Accounts with financial or sensitive information
