About WeddingDir - Stripe

In your wedding directory, the vendor is the one who pays

Couples arrive looking for a florist or a photographer, compare listings and stay for the budget, the guest list and the other tools. It is easy to think of the site as theirs alone. Yet in a directory with paid plans, the invoice goes to the business that wants to appear there: a flower shop, a videographer, a transportation company.

Each charge is a business-to-business sale: a professional decides whether they trust your directory enough to pay to be in it. WeddingDir - Stripe is the plugin that adds Stripe as a payment gateway to the WeddingDir theme. That is why its settings include something that looks like a detail and has to do with that trust: your company logo, so the vendor sees your brand.

What appears in the theme settings

With the plugin active, WeddingDir's payment gateway options gain the Stripe configuration:

  • Enable switch that turns on payment with Stripe.
  • Your company logo: the recommended size is 128 x 128 pixels.
  • Stripe secret key and Stripe publishable key, which connect the site to your account.

Currency and payment mode, live or sandbox, are not here: they belong to the default settings shared by all gateways.

Plans and invoices in the vendor dashboard

Stripe handles the charge, but the vendor's experience is spread across several WeddingDir pieces:

  • Plan tools: the vendor checks their plan details and when their listing expires, and can buy a plan to unlock more features. They depend on the WeddingDir - Pricing Table plugin.
  • Invoices: in My Invoice they see what they have bought, and the eye icon opens the details of each one. They depend on the WeddingDir - Invoice plugin.
  • Invoice details: in the settings you define the logo and the sender text.
  • Emails: there are templates for events such as the invoice, choosing the lite plan or canceling a paid plan, with an optional copy to an admin.

A free plan so vendors can join first

WeddingDir lets you enable automatic plans at registration: the form shows a dropdown of plans and the chosen one is applied to the new vendor, who can list without activating a paid plan. You can also assign free listings, valid for the period you set.

This changes when the sales conversation happens. A professional can first see how their listing looks and consider paying once they are already in. It is an idea worth testing with your market, and the theme lets you define plans such as Free, Standard and Premium to do so.

What you need and how to set it up

This plugin does not work by itself: it is an add-on for the WeddingDir theme and needs your keys from a Stripe account.

  1. Install and activate WeddingDir - Stripe on a site with the WeddingDir theme.
  2. Check that the Pricing Table and Invoice plugins are active too.
  3. Open the theme options, under Payment Gateway, and set the currency and sandbox mode.
  4. Turn on Stripe with the switch.
  5. Upload your logo, at 128 x 128 pixels if possible.
  6. Paste the secret key and the publishable key.
  7. Make a test purchase of a plan and review the invoice and the email the vendor receives.
  8. Switch to live mode with your final keys.

If you charge another way or use another system

The same theme supports other gateways, such as PayPal, RazorPay, PayFast and PayStack, each with its own plugin.

If your directory runs on Directorist, the equivalent piece is Directorist Stripe Payment, which adds Stripe payments to that plugin. And if you are not building a directory but the site of your own events business, Avala is a theme for wedding planners, photographers and event venues.

Stripe in WeddingDir, question by question

Does it work without the WeddingDir theme?

It is not meant to: it is configured inside the theme options.

Who pays through this gateway?

The directory's vendors, who are the customers the logo in the Stripe settings is aimed at.

Where do I change the currency?

In the Payment Gateway default settings, shared by all gateways.

Can I test before charging for real?

Yes. The same settings include a sandbox mode.

What size should the logo be?

The best size is 128 x 128 pixels.

Does it create the pricing plans?

No. The plan tools depend on the WeddingDir - Pricing Table plugin.
