About weDocs – Knowledgebase and Documentation Plugin for WordPress

Documentation gets written to stop answering the same questions, but it usually fails somewhere else: the articles exist and nobody finds them, or they sit in a single list that grows without order. If you sell a product or run a team, the problem is rarely a lack of content; it is a lack of structure. weDocs is a plugin for building that knowledge base inside your own WordPress.

Three levels and drag to sort: structure beats volume

Documents are organized into sections and subsections, with up to three levels of nesting. You reorder them by dragging and dropping, so changing the hierarchy as the product evolves does not mean redoing everything. You can also create several independent knowledge bases, each with its own permissions, and classify documents with tags.

To bring them out of the documentation area, the [wedocs] shortcode embeds them in any page, including with Elementor and other page builders. It integrates with SEO plugins such as Yoast SEO, All in One SEO, RankMath or Slim SEO, and the plugin is lightweight, which matters if your articles need to rank.

weDocs depending on who installs it

If you are coming from a SaaS platform

Documents live in your WordPress, inside your own database, with no dependence on an external service. If you use BetterDocs today, there is a dedicated migration tool to move over.

If the documentation is internal

You can mark documents as private (visible only after logging in) or restrict access to a single one. Role-based permissions let some roles only read and others read and write. It works for a team wiki, not just a public help center.

If you sell a product and customers keep asking questions

This is where the live search makes sense, with three templates (Default, Bootstrap and Tailwind), showing which document matches and where it is. You can also give the documentation the look of the Tailwind or Bootstrap 4 docs, or use your own templates.

If you publish in several languages

It is compatible with Weglot, which translates documentation into more than a hundred languages.

The weDocs floating assistant: Explore, chat and form

The Assistant Widget is a floating button on your site. Explore shows the most viewed documents, useful so visitors see the essentials without asking. You can choose to open documents inside the widget itself, and it works with both Gutenberg and the classic editor.

  • An AI chatbot, based on ChatGPT, trained on your documentation and answering from it.
  • A floating contact form, in the bottom right corner, with spam blocking through Cloudflare Turnstile.
  • Customizable colors, texts, icons and tab order, with predefined palettes.

Questions before installing weDocs

Can I have public and private documentation at the same time?

Yes. You can switch a public document to private at any time, or restrict all documents.

Does it work with Elementor?

Yes, with the [wedocs] shortcode you place the content in pages built with Elementor or other builders.

Can I organize my documents by topic and by product?

Yes: several knowledge bases, three levels of sections and tags.

Can I migrate from another plugin?

There is a tool for BetterDocs. For other plugins there is no built-in migration.

Translation requires Weglot and the chatbot is worth testing first

weDocs does not translate on its own: multilingual support depends on Weglot. The floating form is a simple contact form, not a ticketing system. And the AI assistant answers with what is in your documents: if your documentation is thin, the answers will be too. Check in the demo which parts of the assistant are available in your edition.
