Giving away a product without hurting your margin
Percentage discounts are easy to apply and hard to take back: once customers get used to paying less, returning to the normal price is difficult. Giving away a specific item works differently: the customer sees it as an extra, and you decide which one, when and for whom. And if you pick a product with a good margin or slow stock, the gift costs you far less than discounting the whole order.
WooCommerce Free Gift Coupons adds a coupon type that, when applied with the right code, automatically puts the gift in the cart. Depending on how you set it up, you can give just the gift or combine it with a discount.
Coupons that work like the usual ones, but with a gift inside
The gift coupon behaves like a standard WooCommerce coupon, so it inherits its restriction rules and usage limits. That lets you run very different scenarios:
- Reward a specific customer by restricting the coupon to their email address.
- Encourage bigger carts by requiring a minimum purchase amount to get the extra item.
- Limit how many times it can be redeemed so the promotion doesn't get out of hand.
- Launch a discount and gift combo when you want to push a larger purchase.
There is no new logic to learn: if you already handle coupons, you can handle this.
Giving away a T-shirt and letting the customer pick the size in the cart
One of the most useful features is choosing variations in the cart itself. If you give away a garment, the customer selects their size before paying.
It has declared compatibility with Name Your Price, Product Add-Ons, Role Based Pricing, Smart Coupons and WooCommerce Subscriptions, and it works with the cart and checkout blocks and with high performance order storage (HPOS).
Deciding whether this plugin is the tool you need
This plugin does one thing: it gives away a product through a coupon. That specialization is its strength, but it also sets its limits. It is not a loyalty system with points, and it does not create automatic gift rules without code; the customer or you have to use a coupon code.
There is one point worth testing before launching a campaign: choosing variations in the cart. Some users have had problems when other code interfered with the selection template or when the variable product was not purchasable. Check in your store that the variable gift product can be bought normally and that the selector appears.
Can I give away a product with variations?
Yes, the customer chooses the variation (for example the size) in the cart. Make sure the variable product is purchasable and that there are no conflicts with other plugins.
Can I combine the gift with a discount?
Yes, depending on how you set up the coupon you can give just the gift or a discount and gift combo.
