About WP Virtual Assistant
A chat that doesn't understand, it only follows the script you write
Adding an assistant to a website usually ends one of two ways: a live chat nobody answers at ten at night, or a bot that promises conversation and gets lost by the third question. WP Virtual Assistant takes another route: it doesn't improvise, it runs conversations that you design step by step.
That changes what you should expect. People who install it usually have a site where visitors always ask the same questions (which product suits me, where do I find this, how do I get in touch) and waste time looking for the answer. A well-thought-out script solves exactly that, but writing and testing it is your job.
How a conversation is built in WP Virtual Assistant
Each conversation is made of steps. In each step you can put a text (the one shown in the bubble), actions and interactions with the visitor.
- Answer fields: text, numbers, dropdown lists and buttons.
- Actions: redirect to a specific page, highlight elements of the site, run specific Javascript code, email the conversation to the administrator or pass the previous answers as variables to another page.
That last option is useful, for example, to fill in a form with what the visitor has been answering.
An assistant that guides and collects data, not one that serves like a person
The strongest use case is the guided advisor: ask visitors what they need, filter with a couple of buttons or dropdowns and take them to the right page.
If your business receives very varied, open-ended enquiries, a decision tree will fall short. If enquiries repeat and fit into five or six paths, it's a good tool.
Free-form answers need a human or a separate plugin
- Already solved: email notices to the administrator, sending answers to a PHP page, redirects and element highlighting.
- You cover it: writing and maintaining the scripts, and handling questions that fall outside them.
- Covered with another tool or a professional: if you want the receiving PHP page to process the data, store orders or fill in a form, that page has to be programmed.
The description talks about selling products, but that means guiding and redirecting the visitor to them with your script, not managing a shopping cart inside the chat.
Look, language and testing before going live
The assistant's style is changed from the admin panel to fit your brand. You can change the avatar by choosing between your own or an included gallery, and place it in the bottom right or left corner of the screen.
There is a preview mode to test the assistant before showing it to visitors, which helps when a script has several branches. With WPML you can translate the conversations for an international audience. The admin panel comes translated into English and French. Import and export allow backups and moving your scripts to another site. It also works with WP Creative Banners Builder.
