About WPC Price by Quantity for WooCommerce

A badly built quantity discount gives away margin and doesn't grow the order

Offering «buy more, pay less» looks easy until you have to decide which units the discount applies to. If it applies to all of them, the customer who reaches 20 units pays the reduced price from the very first one. If it applies only to the units beyond each threshold, the order costs more. That difference decides your margin, and many stores only discover it after selling.

WPC Price by Quantity for WooCommerce lets you choose between the two mechanics and shows buyers a tier table on the product page. An indicator slides along and marks the active unit price for the quantity they choose.

Volume or tiered: with 20 units, two different totals

Picture a $10 product with three tiers: from 3 units at 95%, from 5 at 90%, and from 10 at $5 per unit. The same 20-unit order gives different results:

  • Volume pricing: a single unit price, the one for the tier reached, applies to all units. Here, 20 x $5 = $100.
  • Tiered pricing: each tier charges its own units at its own price. Here, 3 x 9.50 + 5 x 9 + 12 x 5 = $133.50. The table shows an extra column with the breakdown and the subtotal for each tier.

Each tier accepts a fixed number or a percentage of the main price, and it can lower the price or raise it. The latter has a real use: if an offer limits customers to 2 units, raising the price from the third unit stops a few buyers from hoarding the stock.

WPC Price by Quantity for every kind of store

Manufacturer or wholesaler

Volume pricing suits those who want large orders: the more the customer buys, the lower their average cost. You can give each user role its own table, so the wholesaler sees lower prices than the end customer.

Services charged by consumption tiers

If you sell something that grows in blocks, such as storage, tiered pricing lets you charge one price for the first GB, another for the next ones and another for each extra GB beyond a certain threshold.

Product with decreasing price and a cap per order

With tiers you can charge 100% for the first unit, 90% for the second and a lower price for the third. If you set the cap at 3 units, the price goes back to 100% from the fourth.

Internal team buying in the store

Role-based pricing covers administrators, editors, customers or shop managers. For example, managers can always pay 5% less than a customer at every tier.

Global, category or product-level rules

Global tables are created from the WPClever menu and apply storewide. As the source of a rule you can choose all products, categories, tags, brands, attributes or product types, so you don't have to configure item by item.

You can create several sets for the same source and the same role. If a product falls into several, the first valid one by order applies. If «T-shirts» for managers comes before «tag new» for managers, a T-shirt with that tag uses the first.

You can also change the table position on the product page, the color of the active row and its background, show the saving as an amount or percentage, and edit the «After» text of each tier. That line can tell the customer how much they save, or indicate the unit of measure or the tax.

Questions before setting up the tiers

Can I give different prices to wholesalers and individual buyers? Yes, each user role has its own tables.

Is it only for discounts? No: each tier can lower or raise the price, as a fixed number or a percentage.

What happens if a product falls under two rules? The first valid one by set order applies.

Will the customer see what they save? Yes, you can show the saving after the price and customize each tier's text.

Overriding global rules on a single product requires the premium version

Disabling or overwriting global tables from a product's own tab is a premium version feature. Without it, your foundation is the global rules by source and role.
