About Edit Order by Customer

Large orders that get corrected by email, after the fact

A customer places an order, realizes the address is wrong or that one product is too many, and writes to you. You edit the order by hand, confirm the change and hope they don't change their mind again. With large B2B orders this keeps happening, and every correction goes through you. Edit Order by Customer lets the customer make the change themselves from their account.

Edit Order by Customer: what each customer can change

The customer sees an Edit Order button in the orders list on My Account. Clicking it shows the editable information, and they can change only what you have allowed:

  • Billing address: you can make all fields editable or only some, depending on the order status.
  • Shipping address: also by field. To avoid additional shipping costs, you can lock the zip code, country and city.
  • Products: all of them or only some. If you allow it, the customer removes and adds products through an Add Product popup.
  • Shipping and payment methods: you choose which ones can be changed at each order status.

Editing can also be limited to specific customers, user roles and order statuses, so you don't have to open it up to everyone equally.

Every edit stays on hold until you review it

When a customer modifies their order, you get an automatic email with the new details (you can enable and customize it) and the order moves to on-hold status. You then review it, approve the change and move it back to pending payment or to whichever status fits that stage.

Products can't be changed on orders that are already paid

Product editing can only be enabled for two statuses: pending payment and on-hold. If you expect customers to change products or shipping methods once the order is paid and processing, this plugin isn't designed for that. It is a tool for adjusting before you get paid.

  • Solved: the customer edits addresses, products and payment and shipping methods in the statuses you enable.
  • Solved: the administrator receives an email with the modified order's details.
  • You cover it: product changes on orders in any other status, for example processing.
  • You cover it: validating each change and returning the order to its status.
  • You cover it: agreeing the conditions with your customers (until when they can edit, which changes you accept), with your own text or by hand.

If the order amount changes when products are edited, check in the demo how the total ends up before offering it to your customers.

Questions to settle before enabling Edit Order by Customer

Can the customer edit any order?

No. You decide which customers, which user roles and which order statuses allow editing, and which fields can be changed in each case.

Can I stop them from changing the shipping country or city?

Yes. You can disable editing of the zip code, country and city so you don't end up with shipping costs different from the ones calculated.

Does it notify me when a customer changes something?

Yes, you receive an email with the new order details, and the order moves to on-hold status until you review it.

Does it work for changing products on an order in processing?

No. Product editing is only enabled for the pending payment and on-hold statuses.

Does it work without WooCommerce?

No, it is an extension for WooCommerce and works on its orders and its My Account page.
