About EventON - WordPress Virtual Event Calendar Plugin
A calendar that informs and one that charges do not need the same server
While an event is only being announced, publishing the date, place and description is enough. The day you start selling places, you add the order, the payment, the remaining tickets, the confirmation email and the list at the door. The website stops being a noticeboard and becomes a cash register.
That difference is paid for in infrastructure: EventON on its own runs with a minimum of 128 MB of PHP memory, and with tickets and WooCommerce that minimum rises to 512 MB, with HTTPS required for payments. The product name stays the same, but the project is a different one.
EventON focuses on the noticeboard: more than 200 features for publishing, repeating and displaying events. Selling, confirming attendance and controlling access live in separate addons. Before installing, it pays to decide which of the two projects you are in.
Repeats, views and event cards in the plugin
- Varied durations: single-day, multi-day, all-day, month-long and year-long events.
- Repeats by hour, day, week, month, year or custom dates.
- Views for month, schedule, tile and Live Now, for what is happening right now.
- Timezone per event, an option to view the visitor's local time, and links to add to Google Calendar and iCal.
- EventCard Designer with 7 layouts and EventTop Designer for the top section of the event.
- Schema and JSON-LD data added automatically.
Online events with Zoom and Jitsi from the edit page
A virtual event is set up on the same screen as an in-person one, with Zoom and Jitsi integration.
While the session is running, a progress bar and an animated Live Now indicator show that it has started. Once it ends, you can add post-event content.
Extended virtual features are in the Virtual Plus addon, and paid access goes through the tickets addon once again.
What comes with addons, not with the plugin
Addons extend EventON and do not work without it. These are some of them:
- Ticket sales: Event Tickets sells through WooCommerce, and QR Code, Seats, Check-ins and PDFer add QR codes, seating, access control and PDF tickets.
- Attendance without payment: RSVP Events collects name, email and number of places, with no need for tickets.
- User-submitted events: Action User opens submission from the front end with permission control.
- More views: Full Cal adds the classic month grid, and Weekly View, Yearly View and Daily View add week, year and day views.
Server, installation and first calendar
For EventON alone: WordPress 6.0 or higher, PHP 8.0 or higher (8.1 or above is better), MySQL 5.7 or MariaDB 10.3, 128 MB of memory (256 MB is better), Apache or Nginx, WP-Cron active and permalinks enabled.
With addons, minimum memory goes to 256 MB and PHP 8.2 is recommended. With tickets and WooCommerce: WooCommerce 7.0 or higher, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.4, 512 MB, HTTPS, the mbstring, json, curl, gd and imagick extensions, and at least 2 cores and 4 GB of RAM for medium traffic. To get it running:
- Upload the ZIP in Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin, and activate it.
- Create a new event with title, description, start and end. Always set the end date to avoid display problems.
- Add a location, organizer, color and featured image if you need them, and publish.
- Insert the calendar with the EventON block or with
[add_eventon show_et_ft_img="yes" hide_past="yes"].
Calendars and ticket sales in the catalog
If selling is central, FooEvents for WooCommerce turns WooCommerce products into ticketed events, with QR codes or barcodes and check-in apps for iOS and Android.
If you want another noticeboard with more views out of the box, The Events Calendar Pro brings together seven views, including photo and map, plus recurring events.
Questions before building your event noticeboard
Can I sell tickets without addons?
To sell tickets with stock or variations you need the Event Tickets addon with WooCommerce, and QR codes come with the QR Code addon.
Does it show a month grid?
That layout is added by the Full Cal addon.
Does it work for recurring webinars?
It includes repeats and virtual events through Zoom or Jitsi. Try a short series before announcing it.
