About Foller Social followers bar for WordPress
A small counter still counts, and visitors read it
Showing your follower numbers on your site looks like an easy way to add social proof, until the number is modest and turns into a public scoreboard that works against you. Linking each network by hand, with loose icons in different styles, also tends to produce a messy bar that clashes with your design. Foller handles the technical part: it retrieves the figures and draws them in consistent buttons. The strategic part, deciding which number you show, is up to you.
Foller and its networks: Facebook, YouTube, GitHub and your own WordPress too
The plugin includes counters for Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, VK, Flickr, GitHub, Twitch and Envato. Alongside them it offers three metrics from your own site: WordPress posts, comments and users. The latter is more useful than it seems: on a blog or a community, "hundreds of articles" or "thousands of comments" can carry more weight than a newly opened social profile.
- Each network is configured separately: text, icon and border colors, text before and after the button, icon on or off, and its own icon, caption and color.
- Order as you like: you put first the network where you really have a community.
- Data caching time: you set it yourself, so the figure is not fetched on every visit. This means the number shown may lag behind the real one.
Placing it where it belongs: positions, rules and builders
There are seven positions on the page, thirteen button style combinations and eight preset layouts as a starting point. You can adjust border radius, paddings and margins, and choose between ten initial animations and twelve hover effects. It pays to be moderate: a bar that keeps moving distracts from the content.
To insert it you get an Elementor widget, a WP Bakery addon, a WordPress widget and a shortcode, so it works in almost any editor. It includes an interface for binding the bar to categories, specific pages, user roles and devices, for example to hide it from logged-in users or show it only on blog posts. It runs on native JavaScript without jQuery, is compatible with Gutenberg and RTL, and includes a pot file for translation.
Counter or button only? The decision to make with Foller
Each button can be shown with or without the figure. If your numbers are low, a clean "Follow us" button does its job without exposing you. If they are high, the counter adds value. You can also mix: figures on your strong networks and just a button on the rest.
Does it work if my theme is not built with Elementor?
Yes. It has a widget, a shortcode and a widget for themes that use widget areas, so it does not depend on a specific builder.
Do the figures update instantly?
Not necessarily. There is a configurable caching time, so the number may take a while to reflect a recent change.
Does it work with X or Twitter?
It does not appear in the list of networks. If it is your main network, check in the demo whether it is available before deciding.
What does it not do?
It is not a social analytics dashboard or a system for publishing or sharing content: it shows figures and follow buttons. If you need buttons to share posts, look for another tool.
