You hand out points for commenting, for coming back every day or for completing a profile. As long as points only accumulate, they cost nothing. The moment they can pay for part of a product, each point becomes worth an amount of revenue you do not collect.

Allowing payment with points is setting a discount, and the maximum per purchase is a margin decision before it is a loyalty one.

GamiPress Easy Digital Downloads Partial Payments is a GamiPress addon for stores running Easy Digital Downloads. It lets the customer reduce the total of their purchase with GamiPress points, just as if they applied a discount at payment.

How paying with points is configured

• Any points type from GamiPress can be enabled for partial payment.
• Several types in the same purchase: the customer can combine more than one points type to lower the total.
• Its own conversion rate for each points type.
• Cap per type: you set the maximum amount allowed for each one.
• Fixed or free amount: you can require a specific amount of points or let the customer type their own.
• Different input controls to choose the exact amount.
• Discount limit per purchase, as a fixed amount or as a percentage.
• Live preview of the discount value based on the points entered.

Refunds and purchase data

If a purchase is refunded, the user recovers the points they used. Used points are recorded as spent, and they are deducted at the moment they are applied.

The information about the points used appears wherever purchase details are shown: cart, checkout, payment details and invoices. It also works with the Easy Digital Downloads block checkout.

A purchase that brushes the discount cap

Imagine one points type enabled with a low conversion and a maximum discount set as a percentage, with a customer about to exceed that cap. The discount shows in the payment detail and, if the purchase is refunded, the points return to their balance. This is just one way of using it; change it to suit your store.

What partial payment leaves out

It does not register points types as payment gateways. To pay for an entire purchase with points you need the separate points gateway addon for Easy Digital Downloads. GamiPress activities for store actions, such as earning points for buying, require the independent Easy Digital Downloads integration.

Partial payment reduces the total; it does not replace the payment method. The customer still pays the rest through whichever gateway you have active.

To get started you need Easy Digital Downloads and GamiPress active, and at least one points type created:

1. Install and activate the addon from the plugin installer.
2. Enable partial payment on the points type you want.
3. Define the conversion rate, the cap per type and the discount limit per purchase.
