About GamiPress Expirations
With relative expiration, each person expires on a different day
You give an achievement or some points an expiration date and picture a single day on the calendar. But if the expiration counts from the moment each user earned the award, that single day does not exist.
With a relative expiration there is no date to announce to everyone: the notice is set as a period before expiry, and each person gets it on their own timeline.
GamiPress Expirations is a GamiPress add-on that puts an expiration date on points, achievements, ranks and requirements. The date can be specific, the same for everyone, or relative: after a number of hours, days, weeks, months or years since the user earned that award.
What can expire and how users are notified
- Points, achievements, ranks and requirements: any of them accepts an expiration.
- Specific or relative date: a calendar date or a period counted from when the user earned it.
- Time limit to complete an achievement: a requirement can demand that all its steps be completed within a set time.
- Emails before expiration: configurable, for a period beforehand and also for the moment of expiry itself.
- Emails after expiration: they tell the user about elements that have already expired.
- One email per expired award: the expiration notice is sent only once for each earned element.
- Log: when a GamiPress element expires, an entry appears in User Earnings.
For ranks there is one more option: recalculating the expiration date when the previous rank expires. The add-on also recognizes the WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads points-per-purchase-total add-ons.
A loyalty level that must be renewed
Think of a loyalty rank that the user keeps for a while and has to earn again. One possible setup:
- You give the rank a relative expiration, counted from when each person earned it.
- You configure an earlier email so the user knows the expiry is approaching.
- You configure the email for the moment of expiry.
- If it suits you, you turn on the option that recalculates a rank's expiration when the previous one expires.
It is only a suggestion; modify it for your project.
Limits of expirations in GamiPress
- It needs GamiPress. It is not a standalone plugin.
- Expiration runs through a scheduled WordPress event, and that event depends on your site's cron running.
- The emails depend on your site's mail delivery working.
- Among its functions there are no notices outside email, such as notifications inside the site.
First steps with GamiPress Expirations
- Install and activate GamiPress and then the add-on.
- Open the points type, achievement, rank or requirement you want to expire.
- Choose between a specific date and a relative period.
- Configure the emails for early notice, expiry and expired element.

Answers about GamiPress Expirations
Can I expire only the points and leave the achievements?
Yes. Expiration is set on each points type, achievement, rank or requirement separately.
Does the user get several emails for the same expired award?
The expiration email goes out only once for each earned element. Earlier notices are separate.
Can I warn users before something expires?
Yes. There are configurable emails for a period beforehand and for the moment of expiry.
Is there a record of what expired?
Yes. An entry is added to User Earnings when an element expires.
