About GamiPress - Nominations
The minimum number of votes is the real criterion for the award
You open a form so your members can propose whoever deserves a badge or a rank, and soon the question the form does not answer comes up: how many voices does a proposal need to count?
In a recognition program based on nominations, the number of votes you set for automatic approval is the real criterion for granting it, more than the wording of the call.
GamiPress Nominations is a GamiPress add-on that lets you unlock achievements or ranks through nominations. One person nominates another from a form. Depending on how you configure it, the nomination is approved on its own once it reaches a minimum number of votes, or only an administrator approves it. Who decides is therefore the first thing worth settling.
What the nomination system includes
- Achievements or ranks by nomination: you choose which ones unlock this way.
- Optional notes field: the nominator can explain the reasons.
- Two approval modes: automatic based on the number of votes, or reviewed by administrators only.
- Configurable user dropdown: you define how each person is displayed and which roles can be nominated.
- Cap per item: you limit how many different nominations a user can make for each achievement or rank.
- Adjustable form texts from the settings.
- Review screen: approve or reject each nomination and revoke one already approved, which restores the user's awards.
- Emails: they notify the administrator of new nominations or votes and the nominated person.
The form goes wherever you want with a block, a shortcode or a widget. A setting stops a rejected person from being nominated again for the same award, and administrators can leave internal notes on each nomination. It also supports achievements that can be earned several times.
The add-on adds eight activity events to use as requirements: nominate someone, get nominated, and each of them for any achievement or rank or for a specific one. That way, a nomination can be a step of another achievement.
A recognition between members as a setup example
Imagine a community with a rank called "Featured member" that is only obtained by nomination. One possible setup:
- You mark the rank as unlockable through nominations.
- You limit the dropdown to the roles of the people who can receive it.
- You turn on the notes field so each proposal arrives with its reason.
- You choose automatic approval with a minimum number of votes, or administrator-only review.
- You set how many different nominations each user can make for that rank.
This is just one way to use it; adjust it to your case.
Limits of nominations in GamiPress
- It needs GamiPress. The add-on does not work on its own.
- Nominations are made between users: the dropdown lists those in the roles you allow.
- With administrator-only review, the nomination queue moves at the pace someone reviews it.
- The emails depend on your site's mail delivery working.
First steps with GamiPress Nominations
- Install and activate GamiPress and then the add-on.
- Create the achievement or rank that will be unlocked, or pick an existing one, and enable nominations on it.
- Decide the approval mode, the cap per user, the notes field and the dropdown roles.
- Place the form with the block, the shortcode or the widget.
- Review the nominations from the administration screen.
