Unlocking something is also a fact you can count

Your points system rewards what people do: buying, commenting, finishing a lesson. But it can count one more fact: having gained access to an achievement, a rank or a step that was closed.

With Restrict Unlock, gaining access to an element becomes a GamiPress event, and that lets other rules in your system wait for it.

Restrict Unlock is a GamiPress add-on that adds conditions to unlock gamification elements: points awards and deducts, achievements, steps, ranks and rank requirements. Besides the conditions, it adds six new events, including getting access to a specific element and getting access by spending points.

What you can close and with which keys

• Restrictable elements: points awards and deducts, achievements, steps, ranks and rank requirements.
• Unlock requirements: a points balance, a rank reached, achievements earned, achievements earned of a specific type or all achievements of a type.
• Paying with points: the user can unlock the element without meeting the requirements by spending points.
• Points only: an element can be opened solely by spending points.
• Users and roles: the restriction, and also the access grant, can target specific users or roles.
• Six new events: getting access to an element, to a specific one, by meeting all requirements or by using points, and the specific variant of each.

The manual grant is made in the Users tab of the element's Restrict Unlock box. There you choose users and roles, with no limit on how many, and those granted access get through without meeting the requirements.

A reserved rank and a badge for whoever opens it

Imagine a rank you want to reserve for people who already have a certain points level. You give it a balance requirement and, if you want to offer a way in, you allow it to be opened by spending points. Then you create an achievement with a step that is met by getting access to that specific element, so whoever unlocks it also receives a badge. This is a suggested use; change it to fit your system.

It restricts unlocking, not content

Restrict Unlock acts on gamification elements. To limit access to content, such as posts or pages, GamiPress has a different add-on, Restrict Content. Each protects a different thing.

It needs GamiPress installed, and requirements are configured on each element.

Step-by-step setup

1. Install and activate GamiPress, the plugin it needs.
2. Install and activate Restrict Unlock.
3. Open the achievement, rank, step or points award or deduct you want to close.
4. In its Restrict Unlock box, add the unlock requirements and, if you want, the option to spend points.
5. If someone must get in without requirements, add them in the Users tab, individually or by role.

Can the user skip the requirements by paying?

Yes, if you enable the option to unlock by spending points. You can also close an element so that it opens only with points.

Does it hide a page or a post?

No. It restricts the unlocking of gamification elements. Content is covered by the Restrict Content add-on.

Can I give a specific person access without requirements?

Yes. In the Users tab you choose users or roles, and those granted access get through without meeting them.
