About GetPaid For Contact Form 7
Your customer only knows what the form's email says
A prospect asks you for a price through your form. GetPaid already holds a document in their name, ready for you to review. That person, however, has heard nothing about the document, and may be waiting for a price while you assume everything is moving along.
There are two systems here and the notice belongs to only one. Contact Form 7 for GetPaid turns the submission into a quote or an invoice, but it sends no notification about that document: everything depends on the notices set up in Contact Form 7. That makes the text your customer receives after submitting part of the sales process. It is the place to explain what happens next.
One submission, one document and perhaps a new customer
- Quote or invoice: in the form's GetPaid tab you choose the type of document generated.
- Invoice status: each submission creates an invoice with the status you choose, such as Pending Payment or On Hold.
- Automatic customer: if the submitted email belongs to no customer or user, a new one is created.
- Predefined items: those set by the form are added to the generated document automatically.
- Later review: afterwards you can add items and send the document for acceptance or direct payment.
Since every unknown email creates a customer, an automated submission can also leave a fake one on your list. Enable a spam filter on the form before publishing it.
Field names that must match to the letter
The link between Contact Form 7 and GetPaid is made through each field's name. One different letter and the data does not arrive.
- Required: wpinv_customer_email.
- Person: wpinv_customer_name, wpinv_customer_first_name and wpinv_customer_last_name.
- Business and contact: wpinv_customer_business, wpinv_customer_website and wpinv_customer_phone.
- Address: wpinv_customer_address, wpinv_customer_city and wpinv_customer_zip.
- Detail: wpinv_description.
- Items: wpinv_cf7_items, in the format item_id|quantity.
The items field allows two uses. The visitor can choose what to include in their quote, or you can hide the field so the document carries all the items you offer.
When the customer accepts and pays
This part belongs to GetPaid and its Quotes add-on. A quote accepted by the customer becomes an invoice, and the customer can pay it online. Under GetPaid, Settings, Quotes you configure the default action for quotes and the custom messages.
The Contact Form 7 add-on handles only the first stretch: collecting the data and creating the document. The price comes from the items you add to the form or later from the dashboard.
Three plugins and one tab to get started
You need GetPaid, the Quotes add-on and Contact Form 7, all installed and active alongside this extension. Then:
- Create a form in Contact Form 7 with wpinv_customer_email and the optional fields you want.
- Open the GetPaid tab and define the submission action, the document type and, for invoices, the status.
- Set up in Contact Form 7 the notice that whoever submits the form will receive.
- Place the shortcode on the right page.
- Run a test submission with a new email and review the document and the customer created.
Add-ons for getting paid and delivering the document
PDF Invoices generates the PDF of GetPaid invoices. To collect them online with European methods, Mollie Payment Gateway adds Mollie as a GetPaid gateway.
If you sell with WooCommerce and prefer the request to start from the product page, YITH WooCommerce Request a Quote replaces the price and the buy button with a quote request.
Questions about the form and its document
Does the customer receive the quote on submitting the form?
The add-on sends no notification about the document created. They only receive what you set up in Contact Form 7.
Which field is essential?
Only wpinv_customer_email. The others extend the document's data.
Can the visitor choose services?
Yes, through wpinv_cf7_items. You can also hide that field to include all the items.
Can I change the document afterwards?
Yes. The administrator can add items and send it for acceptance or payment.
Does it work without the Quotes add-on?
Install all three: Quotes is a requirement of this extension, along with GetPaid and Contact Form 7.
