About Give Recurring Donations
For the nonprofit that starts every campaign from zero, not for someone who collects once
Many small organizations live on campaigns: they launch an appeal, donations come in, and a few months later they have to ask the same people again. Meanwhile, nobody knows how much will come in next month. Recurring donations change that logic: the donor decides once and the income repeats.
Give Recurring Donations is for anyone who already receives donations with Give and wants to offer repeat gifts on their forms. It has clear limits:
- It is an add-on to Give: it does not work on its own, it needs the base plugin installed.
- It makes no sense if your fundraising is a single one-off event with no continuity.
- It does not create person-to-person fundraising campaigns (peer-to-peer): that is another Give feature.
- Before committing to it, check in the demo that the payment gateway you use supports recurring charges.
Give Recurring Donations: the donor picks the pace, or you set it
On the form, the donor can choose when to give: daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually. If you prefer not to offer options, you preset the frequency and the form applies it.
This matters more than it seems. Someone who cannot commit to a monthly gift may be happy with an annual one, and a form with a single option loses that donor without you ever knowing.
The donor lost to a hassle, not to a lack of goodwill
With a subscription, some of the drop-offs are not a decision: a card changes or a payment fails and nobody fixes it. This add-on lets donors manage their own subscription: they can update their payment method, pause it and resume it whenever they want. Your team saves the inquiry and the donor does not have to write to you to keep giving.
Subscription figures and emails you do not send yourself
Two parts work for you once configured:
- Reports: you can track subscription performance, recurring revenue and the value each donor brings over time. They help you decide which campaigns deserve more effort.
- Automatic notices: renewal receipts, payment notices and subscription confirmations reach the donor without you sending them by hand.
Questions before enabling recurring donations
Can I use it without Give?
No. It is an add-on and needs Give installed on the site.
Which frequencies does it support?
Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual. You can let the donor choose or set the frequency yourself.
What can the donor do on their own?
Update their payment method, pause their subscription and resume it.
Does it work with any gateway?
Do not assume it does. Check in the demo that the gateway you plan to use supports recurring payments before publishing the form.
