About Gravity Perks Reload Form
The second submission starts where you decide, and by default that is blank
Someone who fills a form twice in a row may not want to repeat all of it. An attendee who registers another person repeats their company, and someone sending another request may repeat their email, but not the reason.
When a Gravity Forms form is reloaded with Reload Form, the fields are cleared by default, and keeping the data from the previous submission is a decision you make, for all fields or only some.
GP Reload Form is a Gravity Perks perk that adds to the confirmation of an AJAX form a link to show the form again, so the person makes several submissions without reloading the page.
What the reload does
- Reload link: in the confirmation message it is inserted from the Insert Merge Tag list, in the Custom group, with the Reload Form Link option. It appears as
{reload_form}. - Link text: changed with the tag modifier, for example
{reload_form:Submit another request}. - Automatic reload: in the form settings, Reload Form section, you enable it and set the seconds to wait.
- Keeping values: the Preserve values from previous submission option keeps all fields as they were submitted. A code snippet lets you clear only the fields you choose.
- Dynamic fields: those filled by Populate Anything or Easy Passthrough update on every reload. With Easy Passthrough, for example, the most recent entry can be loaded each time.
For developers there are two filters: gprf_reload_link, which modifies the link's HTML, and gprf_disable_dynamic_reload, which avoids regenerating the form after each submission and reloads it from the HTML saved when the page loaded. There are also code snippets to reload without delay, reload in a custom element and reload inside modal windows. The GF Cache Buster integration bypasses the cache only for the form, and the rest of the page can stay cached.
Three fields and what survives the reload
A form with AJAX enabled, with a company field, a name field and a comment field, and the reload link in the confirmation. After submitting and clicking the link, the fields come back empty. With Preserve values from previous submission they keep what was submitted, and with the code snippet you can clear only the comment. This is one idea of use; adjust it to your site.
When the reload needs setup or code
- It works only on forms with AJAX enabled.
- Forms inside modal windows may need additional setup.
- By default the fields are cleared on reload. Clearing only some requires a code snippet.
- On a page with several copies of the same form a separate code snippet is needed, because by default the replacement is limited to a fixed container.
Turning on the reload link
You need Gravity Forms and Gravity Perks active, and a form embedded in a page with AJAX enabled. To get started:
- Install the perk with the WordPress installer and activate it.
- Open the form, edit the confirmation message and choose Reload Form Link in Insert Merge Tag.
- Change the link text to the one you want to show.
- If you prefer automatic reload, enable it in the form settings and set the seconds.
