About iBid Multi Vendor Auctions WooCommerce Theme
A winning bid is not yet a sale
Whoever builds an auction site thinks about the countdown and the last-minute bids. The problem comes later: the timer reaches zero, there is a winner and that winner does not pay. The item spent days locked up, and the people who bid lower have already left.
An auction does not end when time runs out, it ends when the money comes in. That is why it is worth checking what an auction site does when something goes wrong: nobody bids, the offer does not reach the minimum or the winner disappears.
iBid, by ModelTheme, is a WooCommerce theme for auction marketplaces that covers those cases in its settings.
Twenty-five demos and multiple sellers
- 25 demos for marketplaces, auctions and shops: electronics, automotive, antiques, coins, art, real estate, books and heavy machinery, among others.
- Each one with or without auctions, also as a normal shop.
- Multi-vendor with Dokan, WCFM, WC Vendors or MultiVendorX.
- Normal or reverse auctions, with a reverse-auction demo for freelance services.
- Elementor and WPBakery among the compatible builders, plus several headers and category modules.
- Multilanguage and RTL, with translation through Loco Translate, WPML or Polylang, and multi-currency with Multi Currency for WooCommerce.
The settings that decide what happens when it goes wrong
If the winner does not pay. "Relist if not paid after n hours" publishes the auction again once the period you set has passed, and another setting fixes how long that new round lasts.
If the auction fails. "Relist if fail after n hours" returns it to the catalogue without you having to create it again.
If the price falls short. The reserve price protects the seller from handing over something below what they accept.
If someone wants to buy now. The buy-it-now price closes the deal without waiting and avoids depending on several bidders being there at once.
Plugins and payment left on your side
Bids come from a plugin. The auction function is provided by WooCommerce Simple Auctions. Without it, the site works as a multi-vendor marketplace, but there are no auctions.
So does the marketplace. Seller accounts, commissions and dashboards depend on the multi-vendor plugin you choose. Use only one: they are not meant to be active at the same time.
Relisting is not collecting. The theme's auction settings include no prior deposit. WooCommerce Simple Auctions does allow, with Stripe only, requiring a stored card to bid and charging won auctions automatically. Without that, if a winner does not pay you get the item back, not the lost time.
Compatible versions and a full test auction
It works with WordPress 6.2.x and 6.5.x to 7.0.x, and with WooCommerce 7.x.x to 10.x.x.
- Install the theme and the recommended plugins it suggests on activation.
- Choose and install a single multi-vendor plugin.
- Add WooCommerce Simple Auctions if you will offer auctions.
- Import a demo from Theme Panel, under Demo Importer.
- In the vendor dashboard, create a product, enable the auction option and set up relisting.
- Test a complete auction with two accounts, including the case of a winner who does not pay.
The bidding plugin and other ways to run auctions
WooCommerce Simple Auctions is the bidding plugin, with normal, reverse and sealed auctions, proxy bidding and manual or automatic relisting. For sellers, Dokan Pro gives each one a dashboard on the public side of the site and fixed or percentage commissions.
Other catalogue options for auctions are YITH WooCommerce Auctions and the PremiumPress Auction theme.
Before the first bids open
Does iBid work without auctions?
Yes. Each demo can be used with or without the auction features.
Can I have several multi-vendor plugins active?
That is not advised. Choose one from Dokan, WCFM, WC Vendors and MultiVendorX.
Does it allow reverse auctions?
Yes. The auction type can be normal or reverse, and there is a demo for freelance services.
What happens if the winner does not pay?
You can have the auction published again after the number of hours you set.
