About MemberPress Cancel Override
The cancel click is the last time they pay attention
A member cancels, sees a confirmation screen and vanishes. You are left without knowing why they left and without a chance to find out whether an offer would have kept them. In a membership, income depends on people continuing to pay every period, and cancellation is the only moment when the member is looking at your site with a decision in mind.
Someone who has already gone almost never answers a "what happened?" email. Someone who is cancelling is right there on your site. That is where this add-on steps in.
What MemberPress Cancel Override does when someone cancels
MemberPress Cancel Override is a MemberPress add-on that automatically redirects members who cancel their subscription to a landing page you customize. That page can show an exclusive discount or a free trial to make them think twice.
The idea is to turn the goodbye into a second chance and, along the way, collect data that helps you fine-tune your offer and reduce member loss.
You build the offer page yourself
It is worth understanding the scope of the add-on before counting on it. Its job is the detour: it takes the member to the page you choose. What goes on that page is up to you.
- The add-on handles: the automatic redirect of anyone who cancels to the page you designate.
- You handle: designing and writing that page with your usual editor.
- You handle: preparing the discount or the free trial terms you plan to offer.
- You handle: if you want to ask why they are leaving, building the form or survey (with a forms plugin, for example) and reading the answers afterwards.
How to get the most out of the landing page
A cancellation page that overwhelms people with ten questions gets closed immediately. It is better to ask one question with a few options (price, lack of time, I did not find what I was looking for, other) and put a clear offer below it. If you have a cheaper plan or a trial that fits the usual reason for cancelling, this is the natural place to mention it.
Over time, the answers tell you whether your problem is price, content or the expectations people arrive with. That information is worth more than any one-off discount.
Frequently asked questions about MemberPress Cancel Override
Does it work without MemberPress?
No. It is an add-on for the MemberPress plugin and needs MemberPress installed and running on your site.
Does it create the offer page for me?
You choose or create the landing page and decide what it contains. The automatic redirect takes people who cancel there.
