About Ninja Forms Multi-Part Forms

Forms that scare people off before they start

A long form on a single page looks like a wall of fields. Applications, enrollments or long surveys often lose visitors. Ninja Forms Multi-Part Forms splits that form into steps inside the Ninja Forms builder you already use, with no new tool to learn.

How Ninja Forms Multi-Part Forms works under the hood

  • Drag-and-drop steps: you add a step with the plus icon, move fields between steps and reorder the tabs by dragging them. There is no limit on the number of steps.
  • Progress bar: it fills as the user moves forward and shows how much is left.
  • Breadcrumbs: clickable labels at the top of the form to go back to a completed step and fix an answer. You can enable the bar, the breadcrumbs, both or neither in the form's advanced settings.
  • Step names and numbers: instead of "Step 2", you write "Your details" or "Review". The name updates at once in the builder tabs, the bar and the breadcrumbs.
  • Per-step validation: missing required fields are flagged in the current step, so nobody gets a list of errors at the end.
  • Mobile adaptation: the navigation adjusts to any screen size.

What you gain depending on the form you have

If you receive applications or intake forms

You can separate personal details, experience and references. With the Conditional Logic add-on, an entire step (a portfolio, for example) appears only for certain roles, and each applicant sees only what applies to them.

If you run surveys

Showing one group of questions per page reduces fatigue, and the progress bar shows how much is left. If the survey is long, the Save Progress add-on lets people pause and resume at the same step with their answers intact.

If you organize events

You can spread attendee details, session preferences and payment across stages. To charge the registration fee in the last step you need a Ninja Forms payment add-on.

If you capture leads

Asking one question at a time, with different paths depending on the answers (with Conditional Logic), works like a wizard. If you put only one or two fields per step, the form feels like a conversation, with no need for another specific add-on.

It needs Ninja Forms and other add-ons for the most powerful features

It is an add-on: it does not work alone, and Ninja Forms must be installed. Showing or hiding steps based on answers also requires Conditional Logic, and saving and resuming requires Save Progress. It does not process payments on its own either. And steps do not shorten the form: if you have questions you don't need, visitors will still see them, just in smaller portions.

Questions before building your stepped form

Can I convert a form I already have?

Yes. You open the form in the builder, add steps and drag the existing fields into each one.

How many steps can I create?

There is no limit, whether it is three or fifteen.

Can I use only the bar or only the breadcrumbs?

Yes, they are enabled separately in the advanced settings, and you can also leave both off.

Can a step be skipped depending on what the person answers?

Yes, as long as you have Conditional Logic. It is configured in the same panel you use to show or hide individual fields.

Does it look good on mobile?

Yes, it is designed to work on any screen size. Even so, test your specific form with the theme you use.

When splitting is not worth it

A three-field contact form gains nothing from steps: adding them only adds clicks. This tool is useful when the form is truly long or when questions depend on earlier answers.
