About Pixwell Modern Magazine
Choosing the demo means choosing what the blog will live on
A recipe blog, a deals blog and a fashion blog with a shop do not support themselves the same way, yet when opening a demo catalog all three get chosen for the same thing: how they look. The problem shows up months later, when the site already has content and the part that was meant to bring in income still has to be added.
Pixwell offers 36 prebuilt websites, for recipes, fashion, technology or travel, and several income routes. What is worth knowing before importing is that those routes are not all in the same place. Some live in the theme, others in separate plugins, and one only has sample content in a specific demo. Deciding first how the site will make money and then how it will look saves redoing the work.
Where each income source lives in Pixwell
- Advertising: responsive AdSense placements and in-feed ads, in the theme itself.
- Affiliate: Shop The Post, to show shopping or affiliate items inside a post.
- Deals and coupons: the Pixwell Deal plugin, included in the package, creates that content type.
- Shop: WooCommerce, with YITH WooCommerce Wishlist as an option. Sample shop content is only in the Fashion demo, so WooCommerce must be active before importing it.
- Member content: compatibility with the Simple Membership plugin, which protects posts and pages.
What it brings for readers and for publishers
There are two routes for layout: Ruby Composer, the theme's drag-and-drop builder, or Elementor, which supports all layouts. Pick one at the start so your pages are not split between the two.
- Navigation: Ajax filters, infinite scroll, live search and a mega menu.
- Reading: dark mode, read it later, reactions and a table of contents.
- Formats: gallery, portfolio, video and audio; recipes with the Cooked plugin, styled in the Food and Recipe demos.
- Search and speed: structured data, Open Graph, AMP, lazy loading and font preloading.
- Other: newsletter popup, cookie notice, WPML and a child theme.
The import happens once, on a clean WordPress
The importer merges demo content with whatever already exists rather than replacing it, and the demos are meant for a fresh WordPress install. Importing another demo months later, with the site running, leaves sample content next to yours.
Each demo has its recommended plugins, and activating them first lets more data come in. Some demo images are copyrighted and not included, so your site will not look identical.
The Pixwell Core plugin is required and must stay active; everything else is optional. Among its features there is no caching: that takes a separate plugin. Most import failures come from hosting, through a PHP maximum execution time or a max_input_vars that is too low.
Installing Pixwell and importing the right demo
These are the steps, with a server check before importing:
- Decide on the main income source and pick the demo that fits it.
- Install the theme on a new WordPress. If you downloaded the full package, unzip it and upload only
pixwell.zip. - Under Appearance, Install Plugins, install and activate Pixwell Core, Pixwell Importer and the plugins recommended for that demo.
- Check the system status to see whether the server meets the requirements. Then, under Appearance, Ruby Import Demos, choose the demo and what content to import.
- When finished, open the theme options, save changes and set the home page under Settings, Reading.
Other editorial themes with built-in income
If your idea is to charge for content, JNews brings a paywall, sponsored posts and paid article submission, and Soledad combines a paywall with unlimited ad placements and a builder for the single post.
Fabula covers everything from a personal blog to a publication with paid content.
Questions before choosing Pixwell
Do I need Elementor?
No. It brings Ruby Composer, although it is also compatible with Elementor.
Can I build a shop?
Yes, with WooCommerce. The sample shop content is only in the Fashion demo.
Can I change demo later?
The importer adds content without replacing what exists, so you would have to clean the site yourself.
Does it work for a site in several languages?
Yes, through WPML, which is a separate plugin.
Which plugin is essential?
Only Pixwell Core, which enables the theme's functions.
