About PMPRO Donations Addon
An association or nonprofit with members usually has the same problem when it comes to asking for money: the member is already at checkout, card in hand, and nobody has offered the chance to give a little more. Setting up a separate donation page, with another form and another gateway, is an extra step. PMPRO Donations Addon puts the donation inside the Paid Memberships Pro purchase flow.
A member who signs up and donates along the way
Imagine your organization charges a joining fee. With this plugin you can add an optional or required donation to that level, which is added to the initial payment. To set it up, you open the level settings, leave price and expiration as they were, and tick the donations box in its own section. From there you can set a minimum and a maximum if you want.
Suggested amounts and the "other" field
You can offer a dropdown with preset amounts (such as 5, 25 or 100) to encourage different levels of giving. If you add the "other" option, donors type whatever figure they prefer.
The member who is already in and only wants to donate
If an active member wants to contribute something extra, it makes no sense for them to pay their fee again or change level. That is what the donation-only level is for:
- It is created as a new level using the advanced template, with its own name, description and confirmation text that the donor will see.
- Price and expiration are left empty, and donations are enabled on it.
- An existing member donates without their membership changing.
- A person without a membership who donates through this level is assigned to it, so do not give it access to restricted content.
Note: that level will still appear on your levels page. To hide it you need the Advanced Levels Page Shortcode add-on from Paid Memberships Pro.
What the donor sees after paying
In the confirmation emails (free or paid checkout, both to the member and to the administrator) and in the order receipt you can include the donated amount with the variable !!donation!!. It only works in those templates.
One-time donations, on top of Paid Memberships Pro
It is not a recurring monthly donation. It also requires Paid Memberships Pro to be installed and active, and it works on top of its checkout and order system. For developers there is a filter, pmpro_donations_get_price_components, that lets you modify the price and donation components of an order.

Does it work without Paid Memberships Pro?
No. It is an add-on that relies on that plugin and on its levels, checkout and orders.
Can I make a donation mandatory?
Yes, the donation can be optional or required on any level, with a minimum and maximum if you wish.
Can I accept donations from people who are not members?
Yes, through a donation-only level. The person will be assigned to that level, which is why it should not give access to private content.
Does it work for monthly donations?
No. The donation is added to the level's initial payment; it is not a recurring charge.
