About Simply Static Pro
Publish the site as HTML and take WordPress off the internet
Nearly everything attacked on a WordPress site is what runs on the server: the PHP, the database, the login form. If what is published is static HTML files, that surface disappears. There is no dashboard to brute-force and no query to inject, because nothing is running.
Simply Static crawls your installation and generates that static version: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images and metadata. You keep editing in WordPress, but WordPress stops being exposed to the public.
What the Pro version adds
The free version generates the site and hands it to you as a ZIP or a folder. Pro is what turns it into a workflow:
- Direct deployment to Cloudflare Pages, Netlify, Vercel, BunnyCDN, Amazon S3 or a server over SFTP.
- Updating a single page instead of regenerating the whole site, which on a large site is the difference between publishing in seconds and in half an hour.
- Forms and search that keep working with no server behind them, the classic problem of any static site.
- WP-CLI, to generate and deploy from a script.
- Minification of CSS, JavaScript and HTML, plus image optimisation.
- Multilingual sites.
What it works with
It works with the usual builders, Elementor, Bricks and Brizy, with WPForms, Gravity Forms and Fluent Forms, and it respects what Yoast, Rank Math and All in One SEO produce, which is essential: a static site that loses its SEO plugin's tags is worth nothing. For multilingual it supports WPML and Polylang.
What you gain and what you give up
You gain speed, because serving files does not compare with executing PHP on every visit, and you gain security, because there is no surface to attack. You also gain cheap or free hosting, since a static site fits on any CDN.
You give up anything genuinely dynamic. A catalogue with a cart, a members area or a search that queries the database do not fit here, or need building another way. Worth being clear about that before you start rather than halfway through.

Company websites, blogs, documentation, campaign sites and generally any project where a team manages content in WordPress but the visitor only needs to read. Also agencies running many client sites who want to cut down on security maintenance.

Can I still edit in WordPress?
Yes, that is the point. WordPress stays as the editor, kept private, and what gets published is the static version the plugin generates.

Is it any good for a shop?
Not its territory. A cart and a checkout need server-side logic, which is exactly what going static removes.
