About SliceWP Add-On - Multi-level Affiliates
Every level you add gets paid from the same sale
Your affiliates know other people who can sell, but your program gives them no reason to introduce them to you. Rewarding them for it looks like the obvious fix, and it is, with one condition worth checking before you turn it on: that sale no longer pays one commission, it pays several.
Multi-level Affiliates is an add-on for SliceWP. It lets an affiliate recruit sub-affiliates and be rewarded for the sales they generate. Each extra level comes out of the same order, so setting the rates is a decision about your margin and should be made with the numbers in front of you.
It does not work by itself: it is a separate plugin that extends SliceWP and adds this layer to your program.
How the sub-affiliate network grows
- Invitation link in the Network tab of the affiliate area, leading to your affiliate registration page.
- Cookie attribution: the link works like other referral links, with the duration set in SliceWP's settings.
- Automatic relationship: whoever registers while the cookie is active becomes a sub-affiliate of the person who invited them.
- Tree diagram in that same tab, so each affiliate can see their sub-affiliates.
- Your own levels: each one is created with Add Level and has its own commission rate.
The math on a $100 sale
Everything depends on the calculation base. A level's percentage applies to what the referring affiliate earns, not to the order price. With a standard commission of 20%, a Level 1 of 20% and a Level 2 of 10%, the split looks like this:
- Level 0, the referring affiliate: $20.
- Level 1, the person who invited them: $4, which is 20% of that $20.
- Level 2, the person who invited Level 1: $2, which is 10% of that $20.
In total, $26 where you used to pay $20: 30% more commission cost on that sale. Run this math with your real rates and compare it with your margin. If you read the Level 1 20% as a percentage of the sale, you would expect $20 instead of $4, and you would promise your affiliates something very different from what they will receive.
What it does not solve for you
It does not pay for recruiting. Among its features there is no reward for a sub-affiliate simply registering: the money comes with sales. Explain it that way in your program to avoid misunderstandings.
It does not activate anyone. A large network of sub-affiliates who do not sell generates no commissions and no orders. The add-on records the relationship; the work with each affiliate is still yours.
It does not show the link without a registration page. If you have not chosen that page in SliceWP's settings, your affiliates will not see the invitation.
Getting started on SliceWP
You need SliceWP running on your WordPress site. With that ready:
- Install and activate the add-on like any WordPress plugin.
- In SliceWP's settings, turn on Enable Multi-level Affiliates.
- Click Add Level, enter the rate for each level and save.
- Choose your registration page in the Affiliate Registration Page field.
- Register a test account with the link and review its Network tab.
If your program calls for different tracking
SliceWP Pro brings together commissions, reports and bulk PayPal payouts, and its current edition already includes Multi-level Affiliates as a built-in option.
Easy Affiliate brings multi-level commissions and suspicious activity detection before payout into one plugin. If your partners sell through spoken recommendations, Coupon Affiliates attributes the sale by coupon code instead of by link.
On levels, invitations and commissions
What is each level's percentage calculated on?
On the commission of the affiliate who referred the sale, not on the price of that sale.
Where does the affiliate find their invitation link?
In the Network tab of their affiliate account.
Which page does that link lead to?
To your affiliate registration page, rather than the home page or a product.
What happens if someone clicks the link and registers days later?
They become a sub-affiliate if the cookie is still active. Its duration depends on SliceWP's settings.
Does it need SliceWP?
Yes. It is a separate plugin that extends SliceWP and does not work without it.
How many levels should I create?
You create them one by one, each with its own rate. Start with one and add another once you have checked the math with real sales.
