About UberMenu - WordPress Mega Menu Plugin

You open a new category and the menu still describes yesterday's shop

You publish a guides section and someone has to remember to add it to the menu. As the site grows, that handwritten list falls behind: categories are missing and old links linger.

A large menu only stays current if part of it is generated from your content. UberMenu, by SevenSpark, builds mega menus on the WordPress menu system and can create items from posts, pages, custom post types, categories and taxonomies. What changes often comes from the data; what must stay put, you place yourself.

Dynamic items that sort themselves and split into columns

  • Sources: posts, pages and custom post types, or categories, terms and custom taxonomies.
  • Filters: by type, term, parent or ancestor, author and more.
  • Limit and order: you set the maximum results and how they are sorted.
  • Images: they inherit the featured image automatically.
  • Columns: results divide into columns on their own.

Each panel is defined by a rule instead of a list.

Panels built with a grid, tabs and content

Each submenu can be mega or flyout, and the built-in responsive grid lets you set the width of each column or a default per submenu. There are also rows to center content, background images and scrollable submenus.

Tabs can sit left, right, above or below their panels, with their own trigger. A panel can hold images, descriptions, post grids, a search bar, shortcodes, widgets, Google Maps, custom HTML and forms with Contact Form 7. Items also accept icons and badges.

Mobile behavior and a configurable look

  • Configurable breakpoint to decide when the layout changes.
  • Unified touch on iOS and Android, with optional buttons to close submenus.
  • Responsive toggle that can be placed independently.
  • Items that can be hidden by screen size.
  • Triggers: hover or click.
  • Orientation: horizontal or vertical, with several menus configured separately.
  • Style: colors, sizes and fonts with a live preview in the Customizer, plus settings per item.

Your theme's style does not copy itself

UberMenu does not adopt your theme's appearance unless the theme includes a stylesheet specific to it. If you want to recreate the look of your previous menu, that styling work is yours.

If the theme does not implement WordPress menus properly, it may not work right away, and its CSS or JavaScript can interfere. For those cases there is manual integration: generated code pasted into the template. There is also a widget, a shortcode and a PHP API.

The sticky menu, visibility conditionals and flat skins are separate extensions. The same goes for the extended icon set: the plugin includes over 100 and the extension adds more than 1,500.

Turning the menu on, with Max Mega Menu and Bellows alongside

It requires the WordPress menu system and a theme written to its standards. Automatic integration also asks that the theme call wp_nav_menu with theme_location, have that location registered and not pass the menu argument as well. After activating it you will see no change on the site until you complete these steps:

  1. Upload the zip, then install and activate the plugin.
  2. Create the menu under Appearance, Menus, and assign it to a location.
  3. Enable that location in the UberMenu panel, or use manual integration.
  4. Configure skin, trigger, transition, orientation and responsive options.
  5. Finish colors and fonts in the Customizer.

Max Mega Menu Pro also builds mega menus visually, alongside your current theme, and its Pro version adds sticky, tabbed, vertical and accordion menus, plus the WooCommerce cart. Bellows Pro focuses on accordion menus and works alongside UberMenu.

Themes, mobile and builders: short answers

Does it work with any theme?

It depends on how the theme implements menus. If automatic integration fails, try the manual one.

Do I need a separate plugin for mobile?

No. UberMenu has its own mobile menu. If you prefer to separate it, the maker offers ShiftNav.

Can it be used with a page builder?

Yes. You replace the header menu block with an UberMenu block or a shortcode block.

Can I put a form inside the menu?

Yes, with the Contact Form 7 plugin.
