The same room sits in several shop windows at once
A small hotel or a holiday apartment does not sell in a single place. It sells on its website, on Booking.com, on Airbnb, by phone and to whoever walks through the door. Platform commissions hurt, and that is why people set up their own booking engine.
What they discover later is that the risk is not paying less commission but selling the same night twice. Vik Booking, by VikWP, is a booking and property management system for hotels, B&Bs, villas and apartments, and it is worth knowing from the start that, on its own, it does not sync with those platforms.
Rates and conditions like a platform
- Per-day pricing, with a different price for each day of the year if needed, by length of stay or by occupancy.
- Child pricing by age, as an amount or a percentage, plus seasons and promotions.
- Restrictions: minimum and maximum stay, forced arrival or departure days and dates closed to arrival or departure.
- Minimum and maximum adults, children and guests per room type.
- Alternative dates suggested when there is no availability.
Day-to-day reception
The dashboard shows who is arriving, who is leaving and who is staying, with an occupancy forecast graph. From the calendar you book by hand whoever calls or walks in, close rooms by date and mark no-shows.
With room numbering you know which unit each guest sleeps in and can drag a booking to another. When gaps remain between bookings, the Resolve room assignment feature analyses the period and proposes rearranging the existing ones to fit the one left without a unit.
Guests can sign on a touch screen when registering, and every registration can be used to export reports for the authorities.
Extras, taxes and payments
You add optional services, such as breakfast or dinner, and mandatory fees like cleaning or the tourist tax, paid at the time of booking. Guests can add extras after booking. There are coupons, invoices generated and sent automatically before arrival or after departure, and email and SMS reminders for balances due.
It comes with PayPal, offline credit card (charged manually) and cash on arrival pre-installed, and it integrates with more than sixty gateways.
Booking.com and Airbnb need another product
The connection with Booking.com, Airbnb or Expedia is another product. That sync is done by Vik Channel Manager, which is not included and works with an active e4jConnect subscription. Without it, every platform booking has to be closed by hand in your calendar.
The housekeeping and maintenance task manager only works with Vik Channel Manager and an active e4jConnect connection.
From room types to the first test booking
It asks for WordPress 4 or higher and PHP 7 or higher. It is compatible with multilingual sites.
- Create the room types with their number of units and maximum occupancy.
- Set the per-day price and then the seasons and restrictions.
- Add extras, taxes and the payment method.
- Make a full test booking and check the email and invoice the guest receives.
If you want synced calendars without a separate channel manager
If what matters most is that dates block themselves on the platforms without another product, MotoPress Hotel Booking exchanges calendars by iCal with Booking.com, Airbnb and others, with the usual iCal delay.
Platforms, payments and guests
Does it sync with Booking.com and Airbnb?
Not on its own. That is what Vik Channel Manager is for, acquired separately.
Can I charge the tourist tax at booking?
Yes, as a mandatory fee paid at the time of booking.
