About Wise Chat Pro

A chat inside your WordPress, with no external service involved

Adding chat to a WordPress site usually ends one of two ways: you embed a third-party service that takes the conversations onto its own servers, or you give up on the idea. Wise Chat Pro goes the other way and keeps everything inside your installation, with messages in your database and users being the same ones you already have registered.

That matters more than it sounds when chat is part of the product rather than a support button in the corner: a community, a course platform, a membership site. There the conversations are your content, and hosting them on someone else's service means they are not entirely yours.

How people talk

  • Rooms and channels: you can run several rooms at once, and users can create groups and join them themselves.
  • Private conversations between two people, with permissions you can tie to WordPress roles to decide who may message whom.
  • Quoted replies to an earlier message, editing of what you already sent, and reactions, which is what keeps twenty messages saying the same thing off the screen.
  • Audio, images and files: users can record voice messages and attach files, and insert GIFs from an external library.

Moderation, which is where a chat lives or dies

An open chat without control tools does not last long. Wise Chat Pro ships a moderation dashboard with what you need: a bad-word filter, message deletion, kicking and banning users, and an approval mode where nothing appears until somebody reviews it. Users can also ignore anyone they would rather not read, which takes work off the moderator.

You can also set opening hours, so the chat is not left unattended overnight.

What it works with

It integrates with BuddyPress, using its groups and friend lists rather than duplicating them. There is a block for the WordPress editor and a widget for Elementor, so placing it on a page does not mean touching templates. And it supports signing in with Facebook, Google or Twitter, along with avatars from those same services.

For anyone who needs to go further, it exposes its own hooks to attach custom code.

Details that usually decide the purchase

  • Multisite: it works on WordPress multisite installations, with single sign-on between them.
  • Seven visual themes ready to use and configurable emoticons, so the chat does not clash with the rest of your design.
  • Sidebar mode in the Facebook style, alongside the chat embedded in the page.
  • Email notifications to participants, moderators or administrators, whichever suits.
  • Backups of conversations, and translation files so you can serve it in several languages.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to pay for a separate chat server?
No. The plugin runs on your own WordPress installation, which is its main difference from alternatives that depend on an external service.

Can it do video calls?
Yes, but that particular feature requires a Twilio account, contracted separately. The rest of the chat does not depend on any paid service.

Is it good for customer support?
It can be used that way, but it is mainly built for communities and user-to-user conversation. For one-to-one support with tickets there are more specific tools.

Does it work on mobile?
Yes, the layout adapts to small screens with no extra configuration.
