About WooCommerce Chase Paymentech
Chase sets the date of your first real charge
You have a Chase merchant account, you install the extension in WooCommerce and you expect the first payment to come in. But Chase certifies each merchant individually, and production credentials are issued after that certification. Until then, the store works in the test environment.
Your launch schedule depends on that review, so make room for it from the start. These are the time frames:
- Test environment and credentials: up to 5 business days.
- Basic test cases: 45 to 60 minutes, plus another 60 to 80 if you test saved cards.
- Chase review: 5 to 7 business days.
- Production credentials: within 5 business days after passing the tests.
The plugin helps with this stretch through a certification mode, available only in the test environment. It is an optional aid: completing the cases is still your work.
A Chase form for merchants in the United States
The extension uses the Hosted Pay Page: card data is posted to Chase's servers while the customer stays on your site. Saved cards are tokenized at Chase, so their details are not stored on your server.
It accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, UnionPay and JCB, credit and debit.
Its geographic scope is narrow. It is available only to merchants in the United States, and payments are processed in dollars. An international customer can pay, but the charge is processed in USD. Canadian dollar processing is not supported, because Chase uses a different API for that currency.
Charge right away, or authorize and capture later
The transaction type is chosen in the settings. With Charge, each order is submitted for settlement. With Authorization, only the total is authorized for later capture from the WooCommerce admin, one order at a time or in bulk.
Refunds are processed from WooCommerce. If the transaction has not been captured or settled yet, a void is performed automatically. That void must be for the full amount, because Chase does not accept partial voids.
Renewals, pre-orders and saved cards
It supports WooCommerce Subscriptions and WooCommerce Pre-Orders, with one configuration condition: tokenization must be enabled, and it needs the optional credentials (user name, password, Merchant ID and Terminal ID). These two cases also require that the CV2 code is not required for the transaction.
Customers with an account can save multiple cards, with no limit, and add them from their account. Guest shoppers cannot save payment methods.
Credentials, certificate and going live
You need a Chase Paymentech merchant account and an SSL certificate on the site. Chase requires quarterly PCI scans from merchants accepting credit cards through Chase Paymentech. It is compatible with the cart and checkout blocks and with HPOS. ChaseNet, electronic check, PinLess Debit, gift cards and Bill Me Later are not supported.
To go from installation to production:
- Install and activate the extension.
- In the Chase Virtual Terminal, open Hosted Pay Page Admin, choose Hosted Payment Form, add the CSS, Return and Callback URLs, authorize your site and select version 1.1 of the specification.
- Select the test environment, enter the test credentials Chase gives you and turn on certification mode.
- Run the cases Chase gives you, with the site public and not in maintenance mode, because Chase must be able to send responses back to it.
- Send the completed document to Chase and, when the production credentials arrive, switch environments.
Gateways for another bank or country
CyberSource is offered worldwide, accepts cards, eChecks and Google Pay, and also supports Subscriptions and Pre-Orders.
The catalog also has Authorize.Net. To sell plans with renewals, you will also need WooCommerce Subscriptions.
Questions about Chase Paymentech in your store
Can I use it with a store in Europe or Canada?
No. It is available only to merchants in the United States and processes in USD.
Are the Secure Account ID and Secure API Token enough?
For taking payments, yes. Capturing charges from WooCommerce or saving cards also requires the user name, password, Merchant ID and Terminal ID.
