About WPForms GetResponse Addon
Your list does not remember which form each person came from
Someone asking for a quote and someone joining the newsletter want different things. If both land on the same list with no marker, later on you will have an email and a name, and no way of telling who is owed a proposal and who an article. That detail only exists at the moment the form is submitted. If it is not saved there, it is lost.
WPForms GetResponse connects your WPForms forms to your GetResponse account and, besides creating the subscriber, gives it context: tags, custom fields and the day it enters your autoresponder cycle. Each connection belongs to a form, so the quote form and the newsletter form can leave different traces.
It is an addon: it needs WPForms and a GetResponse account. Emails, the list and automations stay in GetResponse; here you only decide what data travels and when.
What travels from each form
- Destination list: you choose which one the subscriber joins. It is required.
- Email: you must map the form's email field. It is also required.
- Existing tags: applies those you already created in GetResponse.
- New tags: creates a tag in GetResponse and applies it to all subscribers from that form.
- Day of cycle: sets which day of the autoresponder cycle the contact is on.
- Custom fields: you pair a GetResponse field with a form field. They must exist in GetResponse first.
Three uses that are not the newsletter form
A checkbox inside another form. The addon works with contact, quote, order, registration and any other WPForms form. With conditional logic on, you can send the contact to GetResponse only if they tick a box, so someone writing to you for another reason does not join your list.
One tag per source. Put a new tag on each form and you can later identify in GetResponse who arrived through each route. For that to work, use a different tag on each connection.
A form for unsubscribing. Besides creating or updating subscribers, there is a second action, Subscriber: Unsubscribe, which removes a person from a list using an email field.
Why your test can fail with nothing broken
You send an entry with [email protected], it does not show up in GetResponse and you start checking the connection. The reason may be far simpler: GetResponse blocks certain email domains as an anti-spam measure, and @test.com is one of them.
To confirm it, enable logs in WPForms, under Tools, on the Logs tab. Send another entry and look for the log titled "Submission to GetResponse failed". If the error mentions a blocked domain, test with another address.
Another warning: if you see an option marked Legacy, use the one without it. The old integration works with an earlier version of the GetResponse API, and keeping it can cost you subscribers.
API key and first connection
With WPForms and the addon active, on their latest version:
- In GetResponse, open Menu, then Integrations & API and API, and copy your key. If you have none, generate one.
- In WordPress, go to WPForms, Settings, Integrations tab, and add the account under GetResponse with the key and an internal nickname.
- Edit the form, open Marketing, then GetResponse, and create a connection.
- Choose the Subscriber: Create or Update action, the list and the email field.
- Add tags, fields and conditional logic if you need them.
- Send a test with a real address.
If your contacts go to another service
If your email does not live in GetResponse, this addon is no use to you, and what you need is the connector for your service. WPForms Mailchimp does the same job toward Mailchimp, with field mapping and tags. To send data to a CRM or a tool with its own API, WPForms Webhooks sends it to external URLs when the form is submitted.
If you would rather keep contacts and campaigns inside your WordPress, FluentCRM Pro is a self-hosted CRM, although sending then depends on an SMTP service.
What tends to hold up the setup
Can I send to a segment?
The list and tags are chosen on the connection. If you work with segments, check with a test entry how contacts end up.
Does it create the tags for me?
Those under New Tags To Add, yes. Those under Tags To Add and custom fields must exist in GetResponse first.
