About WPForms Stripe Addon

With several plans on a form, a rule decides the charge

You offer a monthly plan and a yearly plan on the same form. The visitor picks the frequency and clicks the button. The plan that gets processed depends on the conditional rule you wrote for each one and on the order you placed them in.

When a form offers several plans, each charge depends on the rules you wrote for them.

WPForms Stripe is the addon that brings those rules into the form. It adds card payments, one-time and recurring charges, conditional logic and refund handling from WordPress, without building a store. It is an addon for WPForms Pro or higher: without the base plugin and a Stripe account it does not work.

Two modes for the card field

The Stripe Credit Card field can work in two ways:

  • Card Element: validates card number, ZIP code and expiration date with prebuilt components and asks for fewer fields.
  • Payment Element: brings several payment methods into a single integration. Each visitor sees the options Stripe detects for their device and browser.

Google Pay and Apple Pay appear only when their requirements are met.

Recurring plans with rules that compete

Each recurring plan has a name, a period and a number of cycles. The periods are daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-yearly and yearly, and one form can hold several plans.

Conditional logic decides which plan applies, and each plan needs its own rule. If several rules match, the first matching plan is processed, so the order of the plans matters. Several recurring payments also cannot be processed at the same time.

Stripe allows up to 100 recurrences or 20 years, whichever comes first.

The same conditional logic lets people choose between Stripe and PayPal, makes payment optional or switches between one-time and recurring. Notifications also go out on submission, unless you check on each one Enable for Stripe completed payments so that it goes out when the charge completes.

Refunds, cancellations and what stays out

  • Payments: in WPForms » Payments you see transactions, sales and revenue trends, with a link to each operation in Stripe.
  • Refunds: issued with a button in the payment details.
  • Subscriptions: canceled from the details or from your Stripe dashboard.
  • Card data: goes straight to Stripe, and WPForms keeps only the last four digits.

It is a payment form, with no catalog or cart: it suits single sales, donations, memberships, invoices or deposits. The plan name shows in the Stripe transactions but not in the Payments menu of its dashboard.

Connecting Stripe and running a first test charge

You need HTTPS on the live form page and a Stripe account where you are the owner or an administrator. Webhooks configure themselves on current versions of WPForms. The route is this:

  1. Install and activate the addon on top of WPForms.
  2. In WPForms » Settings » Payments, click Connect with Stripe and complete the wizard.
  3. Build the form with an email field, a payment items field and the Stripe Credit Card field.
  4. Turn on AJAX submissions, which the addon needs to work correctly.
  5. In Payments » Stripe, enable one-time payments and set the description, receipt and customer email.
  6. Test with Stripe test cards, in a preview or on a private page.
  7. Reconnect in live mode and save the settings.

Test and live modes are connected separately.

Square, Simple Pay and more payment routes

This addon needs WPForms Pro. If your gateway is a different one, WPForms Square takes cards, donations and orders through WPForms forms. If you do not need a form builder, WP Simple Pay is dedicated to one-time charges, subscriptions and donations with Stripe.

If you already work with another builder, the catalog includes Gravity Forms Stripe and Formidable Forms Stripe.

Four questions about payments in WPForms

Do I need WooCommerce?

No. Payment is added as a form field, with no online store.

Does WPForms Lite not already charge with Stripe?

Lite accepts Stripe, but it does not support conditional logic on payments. That takes the Pro level or higher and this addon.

Can I apply coupons?

Yes. It supports fixed or percentage discount codes on payment forms.

Can I offer monthly and yearly payment on the same form?

Yes. Create one plan per period, ask for the frequency in a field and give each plan a conditional rule.
