About YellowPencil - Visual CSS Style Editor

A tweak with no trail is a debt to your future self

The theme almost fits, but the button has the wrong shade, the headline looks huge on a phone and the footer ignores the margins. Asking for each adjustment costs time or money, and doing it blind in a CSS box leaves loose rules nobody remembers months later.

YellowPencil lets you make those changes on the page itself: you click an element, adjust its style and see the result. What is worth most in the long run is what happens afterward, because a design gets messy through an accumulation of small tweaks, and here changes can be reviewed, re-edited, disabled, reset or deleted.

The plugin does not modify theme or plugin files. The generated CSS loads separately, as an independent stylesheet.

Tools for editing on the page

  • Typography and color: font editing, Google Fonts, color picker and palettes.
  • Size and spacing: width, height, margin and padding are adjusted visually.
  • Position: move and resize elements by dragging.
  • Effects: generators for animations, gradients, shadows and CSS3 filters such as contrast or brightness.
  • Assets: stock images, gradients, patterns, palettes and CSS3 animations.
  • Inspection: element inspector, wireframe view and measuring tool.
  • History: undo and redo.

Phones, logged-in users and the login screen

Styles can be specific to phones, tablets and laptops, with a responsive preview. That way the headline is fixed on the phone without touching the desktop.

You can also edit while viewing the page as a logged-in or logged-out user, and style the WordPress login and registration pages.

For those who know CSS, there is a code editor with error checking, autocomplete and adjustable size. Selectors are generated automatically for the chosen element, and the resulting stylesheet can be viewed, edited and exported.

What to be clear about when buying a style editor

YellowPencil is not a page builder: it adds no new blocks or sections, it only styles what already exists. If content or structure is missing, the answer lies in another tool.

Working on what exists has a practical consequence. Styles point at theme elements through selectors, so if an update changes those classes, a rule can stop matching. After updating the theme, it is worth going over the pages you adjusted.

The CSS loads dynamically from the plugin. If you plan to remove it, first export the stylesheet and test the result on a copy of the site.

Compatibility and first changes

It is intended for any WordPress theme and plugin, including the Elementor and Divi builders. For the first change:

  1. Install and activate the plugin.
  2. Open the editor under Appearance, YellowPencil Editor, and pick the page.
  3. Click the element and change a single property.
  4. Check the change in the phone and tablet views.
  5. Save and open it as a logged-out visitor.

If you need to build, not just adjust

To create templates for headers, footers, posts and archives, Elementor Pro includes a theme builder. Its custom code and CSS depend on the edition.

If you prefer a system over one-off adjustments, Automatic.css is a CSS utility framework for Etch, Bricks and Gutenberg, with brand colors, fluid typography and scale-based spacing from a dashboard.

CSS, sections and the login screen in YellowPencil

Do I need to know CSS?

Not for visual adjustments. The code editor is there for those who want it.

Does it change my theme files?

No. It does not modify theme or plugin files, and changes can be disabled or deleted whenever you want.

Can it add new sections?

No. It styles existing elements and adds no blocks.

What separates the free edition from the paid one?

In the free one on WordPress.org, the paid edition keeps Google font families, font and background color, background images, width and height, and the gradient and animation generators.

Can I take the CSS elsewhere?

Yes. The generated stylesheet can be exported.

Can I design the login screen?

Yes. The WordPress login and registration pages can be edited.
