About Latepoint Payments Square Addon

Charging for an appointment also decides which location records it

A business with two branches receives a paid booking on the website and, at month end, wants to know what each one sold. In Square, locations exist to separate sales activity and reports, and each payment is associated with one of them. Connecting the gateway also means choosing where the money lands in your books.

This add-on connects LatePoint, the WordPress appointment plugin, with Square. It is one of the processors LatePoint Pro adds. To get it running you need three things from your account: the API credentials, the Location ID and the environment.

Three details that connect Square and how to test them

  • API credentials: they come from the Square developer dashboard, at developer.squareup.com/apps.
  • Location ID: identifies the Square location for your application.
  • Environment: must match the environment of the keys you pasted.

If Square is your physical till and you also charge on the web, check which location you choose before publishing the booking form.

Square fully separates the test and production environments. Credentials from one do not work in the other, and in the Sandbox cards are not actually charged. That is why the Environment setting and the keys have to change together: your tests can run in Sandbox, and going to production requires replacing the keys and the environment at the same time.

If the form shows the error Cannot read properties of null (reading: verifyBuyer), there are two known causes: the page is cached incorrectly or the Square credentials are invalid. Exclude that page's assets from caching and minification, and re-enter the keys carefully, with no extra spaces.

What LatePoint puts around the charge

The add-on connects the gateway, and the payment rules stay in LatePoint. At the plugin level these modes and tools are available:

  • Three payment moments: full amount at booking, deposit with the balance later, or pay later.
  • Invoices: a deposit creates a deposit invoice and a balance invoice due on the appointment date.
  • Payment links: requests for the full total, a deposit or a custom amount.
  • Coupons, taxes and refunds: within LatePoint Pro.

Before opening bookings, test with Square the mode you plan to use, because these are general LatePoint functions and can vary by gateway.

Account, fees and emails stay separate

It does not replace LatePoint, which must be installed, and it does not create your Square account. Nor does it remove processor fees, which come from the gateway you choose and not from LatePoint. Square is this add-on's processor: other methods, such as Stripe Connect, PayPal or Razorpay, are set up separately.

Payment requests can only be created when making a new booking from the admin dashboard. They also need an automation workflow that sends the email; without it, the request exists but the customer does not receive it.

Connecting Square and charging the first booking

You need LatePoint Pro and a Square account with access to the developer dashboard. Follow this order:

  1. Install the add-on like any other LatePoint add-on.
  2. Copy the credentials from your application in the Square dashboard.
  3. Find the Location ID of the relevant location.
  4. In the LatePoint payment settings, enter the details and enable SquareUp.
  5. In Environment, choose the same environment as your keys.
  6. Make a test booking and check which location it appears in.

Square in other booking systems

If you use BookingPress, its equivalent is BookingPress Square. To charge with Square outside of appointments, GetPaid Square connects that gateway with the items you sell in GetPaid. If you are still choosing a booking plugin, compare Amelia and Bookly Pro.

Sandbox, fees and deposits with Square

Does it work with free LatePoint?

Square is among the LatePoint Pro processors. The free version brings Stripe Connect, PayPal, Razorpay and pay later.

Can I test it without really charging?

Yes, with Sandbox keys and the environment set to match. In that environment cards are not charged.

Does LatePoint take a commission on each payment?

On paid plans, no. Processor fees are set by Square.

Can I request only a deposit?

LatePoint supports deposits at the service level. Check the flow with Square on a test booking.
