About UsersWP - Frontend Post

Opening the form to guests fills your user list

You want anyone to be able to propose a post on your blog, without asking them to create an account first. It sounds like the simplest way to receive content. The cost shows up afterwards, in your user list.

A post form for guests does not avoid accounts: each guest ends up as a new user, and that list of people becomes something you have to maintain.

UsersWP Frontend Post lets people submit posts from a page on your site, without access to the WordPress admin area. If you enable guest submissions, the form asks for a name and email, creates a user with those details and assigns the post to it. The sender did not have to register beforehand, but your user base grows all the same.

A frontend post form

  • Posts without the admin area: authors write from a page on the site, something designed for multi-author blogs.
  • Guest submissions: enabled or disabled, and you can moderate them.
  • Post status: you choose between pending, draft or published.
  • Content types: supports posts and other custom content types.
  • Images and video: images can be submitted; video can only be embedded.
  • Two emails: one for the user and one for the administrator, which you can enable, disable and edit.
  • reCAPTCHA and messages: protection is enabled from the reCAPTCHA extension, and success and error messages are editable.

A group blog with submissions to moderate

Think of a blog where several people contribute articles. You choose the "pending" status, so each submission waits for your review before it shows. A contributor opens the form page, writes their post, attaches an image and sends it. You receive the notice and decide whether it is published.

If you also open the form to guests, each person types their name and email, and their post is tied to a user created for them. This is one idea of use; adjust it to your blog.

Which restrictions it does not bring

The add-on requires the main UsersWP plugin, because it is enabled and configured from its settings.

  • Among its functions there is no limiting submissions to certain user roles.
  • To reserve the form for certain people, it goes on a restricted page with a content restriction plugin.
  • Among its functions there is no word filter; for that you need a third-party service.
  • Among its functions there is no direct video upload: only embedding is supported.

Before opening the form to the public, decide which status new posts will get, because that determines what your audience sees without your having reviewed it.

Publishing the form in four steps

  1. Install and activate UsersWP and then this add-on.
  2. Open UsersWP, Addons, Frontend Post, choose whether to accept guests and the post status, and write your success and error messages.
  3. Under UsersWP, Pages, assign the form page and insert the UWP Frontend Post Form block, or the [frontend_post_form] shortcode in the classic editor.
  4. Under UsersWP, Emails, review the two notices.

Content form tools to compare

The base plugin is UsersWP. If you already work with Ninja Forms, there is Ninja Forms Front-End Posting. If you want a submissions manager with a public user dashboard, check WP User Frontend Pro.
