About WP Manga - Manga Custom Fields
A detail that is read and another that is searched by
Your manga catalog grows and your readers want to browse it by more than title: the studio, the target audience, the status of the series. If those details have no place of their own on the page, they end up written in the description, where nobody can filter by them.
Before creating a field it is worth deciding whether the detail is something the reader will read or something they will search by, because the field type you choose marks that difference.
WP Manga Custom Fields adds custom fields to the manga pages of Madara-based themes. A text field stores a string and displays it. Taxonomy fields assign the title to terms, and that structure is what makes it possible to group and filter by your own attributes.
Four field types and an order you drag
- Unlimited fields: you can add as many as your catalog needs.
- Text Field: stores a text value.
- Select Field: offers predefined options to choose from.
- Taxonomy Select: assigns the manga to a single category or term.
- Taxonomy Checkbox: assigns the manga to several categories or terms.
- Drag ordering: fields are reordered by dragging them.
The fields appear on each manga's edit page, and their values are displayed on the title's single page. You do not need to write code to add, edit or display them. The add-on also supports link-type and raw HTML fields, and it is compatible with the advanced search form and with WP Manga Users Upload Pro.
A series with one studio and several audiences
Suppose you want each page to state the studio and the audience the series is aimed at. One studio per title fits Taxonomy Select, which assigns a single term. Several audiences for the same title fit Taxonomy Checkbox, which accepts several terms. A short editor's note, which is only read, can be a text field. This is one idea of use; adjust it to your site.
Since Select offers closed options, it also works for details you do not want each editor to write in their own way.
What it needs and what comes separately
It works with Madara themes and WP Manga plugins, and relies on their manga page: without them it has nowhere to display the fields. The settings are under Settings, WP Manga Custom Fields.
- Among its functions there are no options to change how the page looks.
- Uploading titles from the frontend is handled by another add-on.
Creating your fields in four steps
- Install and activate the add-on on a site with a Madara theme.
- Open Settings, WP Manga Custom Fields, and add the fields you need.
- Order them by dragging and fill them in on a manga's edit page.
- Open that title's single page and check how the values are displayed.
Themes and add-ons in the Madara ecosystem
