About WP Reset PRO Plugin
What you need every week is not a backup, it is an undo
Almost nobody breaks their WordPress with a big disaster. They break it on an ordinary Tuesday, updating a plugin or activating another to try it out, and spot the problem ten minutes later. Last night's backup works, but restoring it is slow, takes the whole site back to yesterday and wipes out what happened since.
WP Reset PRO starts from that difference: a backup saves you from disaster; a snapshot saves you from your own change. It creates automatic snapshots before plugins are updated, activated or deactivated, saves the whole database and the plugin and theme files that changed, and restores them in one click.
And the other half is worth being clear about: it does not replace a backup plugin, it works alongside it. Relying on it as the only protection is the costly mistake.
The WP Reset PRO toolkit

The script for the day you cannot log in
There is a failure worse than the visible one: the one that leaves the dashboard blank and stops you logging in to restore anything. For that case, WP Reset PRO includes a script that works apart from WordPress and opens from a secure link.
From it you can enable or disable plugins, disable the theme, check and restore core files, create an administrator user, repair user privileges and fix the site addresses. It is worth installing on day one, because on the day you need it you can no longer log in to do so.
What a snapshot does not save
It is not a backup plugin. Snapshots save the database and changed plugin and theme files, not the whole site: images and uploads need a full backup. In the free version they include no files at all.
The reset cannot be undone. It asks for a second confirmation precisely for that reason, and the nuclear reset deletes plugins, themes and the whole uploads folder. On a multisite network, resetting the main site is not recommended.
Collections are stored in the cloud, so that part does not live only on your server.
Before the first update: requirements and steps
The free version of WP Reset needs WordPress 4.0 or later and PHP 5.2 or later.
- Install the emergency recovery script before it is needed.
- Check that automatic snapshots before updates are active.
- Connect an off-site destination to store them.
- Keep your full backup plugin, because WP Reset works alongside it and not in its place.
Full backups and staging in the catalogue
For the full backups WP Reset does not make, UpdraftPlus stores to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Amazon S3 and backs up automatically before updating, and Duplicator Pro copies files and database, schedules backups and moves whole sites to another server.
If you would rather test changes than undo them, WP Staging Pro clones the site into a staging copy and pushes back to production only what is needed.
Questions about snapshots and resets
Does it replace my backup plugin?
No. It works alongside them, and snapshots are not a full copy of the site.
What does a snapshot save?
In the PRO version, the whole database and the plugin and theme files that changed. A typical one takes about 3 MB.
Can I reset the site by accident?
Reset actions ask for double confirmation, and even so they cannot be undone.
What does the basic reset keep?
The site title, the addresses, the language, search engine visibility and your user with its password.
Does it work on multisite?
Resetting the main site of a network is not recommended.
