About WPML All Import

WPML All Import already has a successor, and it is worth knowing before building anything on it

Importing content in several languages is one of the most delicate jobs on a WPML site. Loading the rows is not enough: each entry has to land in its language and stay linked to its original, or the language switcher ends up leading to loose pages that do not recognise each other.

WPML All Import is the piece that connected WP All Import with WPML to do that. Today WPML treats it as a legacy plugin, older than WPML Export and Import, and no longer recommends or supports it. The useful question is not how to use it, but whether you really need it: it makes sense mainly to maintain imports that already work with it.

How it fits between WP All Import and WPML

It acts as a bridge between the two: the importer moves the data and this add-on takes care of the language. Version 5.2.0, released in October 2026, made a second language import matched to the original through a custom field create its own translations and leave the default language posts untouched.

That version shipped alongside WPML 5.2.0 and shares its library, so WPML components are all updated together, without mixing versions.

Why imported translations do not show in the translation editor

Translations imported with WPML All Import display correctly on the front end, but not in the WPML translation editors: the classic editor shows the original language content and the advanced editor shows them blank, because the import does not create translation jobs.

The way out is to edit those translations with the regular WordPress editor, in manual translation mode. If your team translates or reviews inside the advanced editor, this point alone can rule the plugin out.

When to stay and when to move to WPML Export and Import

  • Stay if you already have WP All Import imports built with it and they work: maintaining them costs less than rebuilding them.
  • Move to the successor if you are starting from scratch: it works with WP All Import Pro, the WooCommerce and WordPress importers and WP Import Export.
  • Bear in mind that the new method uses three columns of its own in the file (translation group, language and source language), and for products the group is the SKU.

What a multilingual import does not leave done

Importing in several languages does not leave the site finished. With the current method, WPML does not adjust parent pages, menus or sticky posts, does not change links or image IDs inside the content and does not copy price or stock to the translations.

Plan a manual pass over menus and links after every large import, whichever route you take.

Requirements and first steps with WPML All Import

It needs WPML and WP All Import, with every WPML component on the same version.

For the first multilingual import, in this order:

  1. Add in WPML every language you are going to import.
  2. Import taxonomies first, then posts and products.
  3. Run the first test on a copy of the site, not in production.
  4. After importing, check the language flags in the admin and the language switching on the front end.

The WPML pieces in the catalogue

The direct successor is WPML Export and Import, and WP All Import Pro is one of the importers it works with.

The new route needs WPML with WPML String Translation and, for products, WooCommerce Multilingual.

Questions about WPML All Import

Is it still getting new versions?

Yes, they ship alongside WPML releases: 5.2.0 came out in October 2026. Even so, WPML no longer recommends it.

How is it different from WPML Export and Import?

WPML Export and Import is the successor: it adds the language information at the end of the process and works with several importers, not only WP All Import.

Why can I not see imported translations in the advanced editor?

Because the import does not create translation jobs. Edit them with the WordPress editor in manual mode.

Can I update only this add-on?

It is not advisable. It ships alongside WPML and shares its library, so the components are updated together.
